With the good weather forecast for the day it was only right to play a second course for the day and my sat nav directed me west from Swansea, through Llanelli and into the Carmarthenshire countryside, arriving at Glyn Abbey Golf Club, located next door to the Ffos Las racecourse.

We’d had plenty of heavy recent rain and it was evident on arrival that the course was likely to be affected. The ground was quite wet but at least the greens showed little sign of the crazy rainfall and were in good condition. Glyn Abbey is a pleasant rolling parkland course with lovely views of the surrounding area. It is undulating rather than hilly and I found it to be a decent walk, while not being too demanding. Just the heaviness of the ground and 18 holes earlier in the day made me a bit more fatigued than usual.

There is a nice flow to the course with a lovely downhill par 5 to start to ease you into the round followed by a nice run of holes, before the first of the tougher par 4’s come in later on the front 9. There are four of these tough par 4 holes (in my opinion anyway) that really give the course some teeth and especially in the damp conditions, give the course that little bit of an extra challenge that can really test your game.

I really enjoyed my round here but as I mention in the outro, I wish I’d played here a few weeks earlier before the deluges came as I’d imagine the course would play quite differently with firmer fairways. The course is in a lovely part of the world and certainly worth paying a visit too. Everyone I spoke to here was lovely – a super friendly welcome and good value green fees too. If you’re in the area it’s most definitely worth adding to your list! 👍

  1. Another excellent video, bar a couple of short putts lip outs that was another really solid round of golf, shame about the very damp conditions when filming this but I think a good 80% of the golfing country suffered the same fate, but it does look a interesting course to play with get able par 4s interlace with some real tests on the longer ones.
I would say you play to a pretty good 10 handicap maybe even a shot lower but you do have a pretty solid game.
When I had a handicap and played a lot I got down to 10.2 under the old system, these days I play to about 18ish at 67 years old but not a member anywhere at this time but still love getting out ang playing.
Look forward to the next episode, they are very enjoyable to watch 😊

  2. Be interested to see what clubs you have in the bag, make a video! Love your content pal, good to see loads of Welsh courses being played.

  3. Being a Bells member I am very familiar with the squelchy sound effects 🙂 Another solid round on a interesting course-really helps to wile away a wet February evening. Keep up the good work.
