LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Since Orion Golf took the nearly 100-year-old golf course under its wing, Meadowbrook has gotten a complete makeover.

Colby VanGundy, Director of Parks and Recreation, believes this golf course can be a staple of entertainment in the Hub City for years to come.

“We view this as a kind of a rebirth of Meadowbrook; it’s something that I’m excited to see,” VanGundy said. “We’re excited for the leadership team that we put together. We think that it is going to make the product here a lot better.”

These upgrades include new golf carts, an updated pro shop, a new food menu and updated kitchen, as well as some changes to both the Canyon and Creek courses.

VanGundy says he can see Meadowbrook providing memorable experiences outside of just golf.

“Being able to have a full service kitchen where you can come and have a client and bring them out to lunch or whatnot is one,” VanGundy said. “Being able to utilize the space for weddings, events, receptions, those types of stuff and just something that has never been offered here at Meadowbrook or hasn’t been offered in a long time.”

VanGundy wants the community to know, both Orion Golf and the city have been working hand-in-hand to make Meadowbrook an affordable and unforgettable time for anyone who comes to the course.

“Now the city has a stake in the game, even more than what we did prior, and so that’s something that we really felt we really needed to go into a different direction…” VanGundy said, citing the difference between the previous lease agreement and hiring a management company.

“These guys are hired on to run it in the manner that the city sees and the city wants and the product that we want to see.”

Tee times will be available to make on Meadowbrook’s website starting Feb. 24, with the course officially opening Mar. 1.
