FARGO — GolfNXT, a large golf simulation complex going up in south Fargo, is teeing up for a Feb. 28 grand opening.
Developer Ross Uglem said people with memberships in the new business will likely get an earlier peek at GolfNXT, which he said will have nine golf simulation bays in addition to indoor and outdoor turfed areas for short-game play.
GolfNXT will also have a golf club custom fitting operation as well as a fitness/weight-lifting workout area.

In addition to golf, the simulation bays will also allow people to practice skills in other ball-related sports like football, baseball and soccer.
Uglem said GolfNXT’s business model is primarily membership based, but he said there will also be opportunities for the general public to make use of the facility, which is located at 5221 Veterans Blvd. S.

On a recent afternoon, GolfNXT was abuzz with the sounds of workers readying the nearly 12,000-square-foot space for opening day.
But amid all the noise, it wasn’t difficult to find a quiet spot by simply taking a few steps in one direction or another.
That was possible, Uglem said, because the building’s design incorporated noise-canceling materials wherever possible, which he said can dull even the sound of golf balls being thwacked by people giving their drivers a workout.

“We found it to be pretty quiet,” Uglem said.
GolfNXT will not have a bar and grill, but it will offer healthy food and beverage options via vending machines.
Uglem has said the aim of GolfNXT will be to provide golfers of all ages a place to go where they can improve their game and he said GolfNXT has put together an amazing staff to do just that.

“I can’t express how lucky we got with staff,” Uglem said.
According to Uglem, GolfNXT will have a meeting room/suite that groups can rent, as well as four private, lockable showers and two four-person infrared saunas “for relaxation and recovery.”
Uglem said the idea for GolfNXT was born in his head and though it wasn’t a back-of-the-napkin situation, it was pretty close.

“My cocktail napkin was driving to WalMart and buying big graphic paper,” Uglem recalled.
“I literally drew this thing out … one little square equals four feet … and I drew it. I wish I would have kept it, because I probably would have it hanging up in my office now,” Uglem said, referring to those original sketches.
Because an architect wasn’t involved, Uglem said they don’t have renderings to show off what the place will look like when completed.

“Renderings would have been cool for Instagram, or whatever,” Uglem said.
Right now, the business is focused on opening the facility in south Fargo, but Uglem said the hope is to someday expand the GolfNXT brand to other cities.
