Morning gents!
Fantasy:
My wife and I have only been playing golf for three years now as I've said before, but we are and were so passionate, that we picked up Fantasy PGA for fun to stay connected and learn the players. That really really helped.
However, when I tell you that we were the ONLY two people who played that we know of, it is a gross understatement. We sent dozens of links for our Fantasy group to people to join and no one ever did. Two said that they tried but the user interface was so bad that they couldn't get it to join. It's something we've complained about since day one and needs immediate attention. I use to get emails reminding me to play on Wednesdays and that had ceased to exist in my inbox.
Shot clock:
Honestly, what's the problem with shortening the distances and allowing these players to get closer to the greens? I know from y'all's past convos that Smylie doesn't like super low scores so much but that seems like an easy way that's already built-in to speed up the game a lot, not even a bit.
More hole-in-one opps and lower scores seems exciting to a newer player like me and I don't think it detracts from the excitement or challenges the game poses.
Imo, seeing more hole outs on Par 4's would be pretty great for the game.
For people/fans not in the know, if that change took place would just think, 'wow these golfers sure are getting good these days' and might tune in more often simply from more S.C. top 10's.
Damn y'all though, cause I'm only 20 mins into the show and have paused for 7 to write this darn comment. Lol
Regarding Fantasy Golf, I don’t see how that would work because network coverage only shows a few groups with marquee/popular players. There are over 100+ players on the course and they show like 5 to 10 of the same players each round UNLESS a long shot has a day. So whatever my fantasy lineup is, chances are I won’t see them unless it’s Scottie, Rory, etc…. As a fan I have my favorites I follow, but I also like watching golf in general. In these broadcasts, rather than show a lot of the field, they throw to commercials. And half the time they “play through” the side window just shows guys walking to the next shot. I would love to see stats on the broadcasts how much coverage is actual shots vs. watching players walk around hole to hole between shots while the announcers fill time. So it’s already slow, and then add slow play on top of it…. Maybe show more players and more shots and then for the viewer it won’t seem as slow…. Just a laymen’s 2 cents.
Scattershooting:
Glad the Eagles won; I was born there. My dad called them the Iggles
Glad the Chiefs won; they were originally the Texans. I live in Texas
Slow play? Perhaps you could set a time par for every six holes. You must complete the 6 holes in "X" amount of time or you get a stroke penalty. For every stoke over par that the group has, you get "Y" extra time.
For ads, put more banners up on the holes like the DP World tour does. I think advertisers want impressions. Could be on the front of the stands. Would look like a minor league ball park, but, who cares! (Same money, less tv ads)
Live betting will depend on coverages getting better or be limited to featured group coverage. Lots of times coverage is switching to guys with ball in the air. Bring on the shot clock. Test it out with opposite field events and with pro-am events. 60 seconds a shot, 1 timeout per 9 holes. I don’t think they’ll enforce rules on slow play if they haven’t done so yet.
This might be crazy, but what if players started using carts? It speeds up pace of play but you can also have cameras in each cart to capture interactions between the player/caddy
hey tom, maybe he’s got a big heart 💀 💀 💀
charlie’s got a high motor
I like watching golf on Thursday-Saturday. Just want to watch the best players play golf. I don’t need gambling, fantasy, music, etc.
Eagles are Americas team going against the chiefs. Nobody likes the chiefs
The South Course is a difficult course to play. It measured 7796 yards and the rough is down. The final round was the most difficult ever. -8 was the winning score. Didnt crack -10 for the first time since 2016 when Snes won it at -6. I think the media was upset cause the superstars didnt show up. The final group went off at 211pm EST. Harris tapped in his final putt at 740pm EST, 5 hours and 29 minutes. Mind you CBS was blocked from 4pm-8pm est for final round coverage. Dottie Pepper was the one that was frustrated at the turn cause her final group of Harris Andrew Novak and Aldrich Poteriger didnt do ANYTHING special. Harris English was +1 nailing 4 fairways. Andrew Novak was +2 finishing at -6. Aldrich was +6 finishing -1. If the superstars had shown up and played slow, nothing would be done. The pace of play will always be an issue. Especially the first 2 rounds this week. When you play with celebrities patience is key. Rounds are about 6 hours.
Smylie, when can we expect to see some more skill-development content from you? Do you have any notable events you even plan on playing in this year? I'd watch!!!
