The new Ping G440 line up has been very impressive indeed and the new Ping G440 7 wood is no exception. This could be one of the most forgiving golf clubs that would be best for all golfing abilities, there should be a place in every golfers bag for a 7 wood and the Ping G440 is a great option.

is it a 7 wood? edit: Yes, it is!
I went to a 7 wood, but sold it – same distance as my 4 hybrid. Probably because I'm 60 and just don't swing fast enough anymore not to plateau at the top of the bag.
Great video, Andy – and spot on for saying that each iteration isn't going to be a huge leap forwards, butbat the same time is a great club.
Hi Andy, just got fitted for a full bag of G440 a fortnight ago, can’t wait to get them. I’m moving from G425 fairways/hybrids, and had made all the ego changes four years ago of moving from long irons to hybrids and even 3/ 4 hybrids to 7/9 fairways because of better ball flight due to declining speed. Current irons are Mizuno JPX923HL. I’m 71 years old, been a PGA member for 52 years and still semi active in the industry coaching, fitting etc. Knowing how equipment evolves I didn’t even try 430’s as Ping is incremental evolution and I applied the same logic to myself as I recommend to customers that the minimum change should be every two models and you will see some improvement with a four year development cycle. In comparison to the 425’s I was getting around five yards longer carry, I never look at “run out” numbers, a little higher flight and slightly more muted sound. The incremental improvements I expected. The irons are much more “player shaped” than the 425/430 so decided to go full bag Ping and even though the irons are a little more clicky than my Mizuno, I’m again putting the ego to the side in favour of my declining speed and age, the DOB and knee replacements, broken arm etc are factors that can’t be over looked! So my bag going forward is all G440 and will consist of 9o Max Driver with R flex, 4/7/9 fairways, 5/6 hybrids, and 7-56o irons all with SR flex alta cb graphite shafts, ½” longer, blue dot, midsize grips. Throw in the LAB DF3 broomstick and I’m done! I may fiddle around with the wedges and go back to my CBX wedge/s and or put the ChipR back in, who knows? 😂
Yes, golf clubs are now expensive, but what isn’t, and my wish would be for people to stop whinging about prices and set themselves up with whatever they can afford and will allow them to enjoy their golf in their later lives. I’m still in love with the game after all these years, it still frustrates the hell out of me and lack of distance drives me crazy but I think I’ve given myself the best chance I can with my set makeup and look forward to the next hundred or so rounds per year for the next four or so years before I revisit product evolution again then, God willing that I’m still here! Love your channel, keep up the good work.
$350 for a 7 wood? Overpriced
Just been fitted and this went straight in my bag. Never thought anything would unseat my LTDx 7w, but the 440 with the CB shaft was far longer and straighter, once my fitter had tweaked the lie angle.👌🏼
I'm telling you this guy cost me some money already😂
I’ve been fit a couple of times at the Canadian PING proving grounds in Oakville Ontario. In their defence, they say the same as Andy … each year is incremental … if you have a G430, they would tell you NOT to upgrade. I appreciated that. 🤷♂️
All these recommendations to put things in the bag and to pull them out and nobody can afford anything. Just stick with what you got and can afford. Club prices this year ridiculous.
Great info! Love the sound and feel comment. Very excited to try one.
Other than my driver and putter, the club I use the most on par 5s and long par 4s (& elevated par 3s) is my 7 wood !!! Also, for the people complaining about the cost of the clubs highlighted, it does NOT have to be a new one. Mine will be 12 years old this year and I have no plans to replace it, lol. I realize that at some point I will need a replacement, but by then these Pings will likely be affordable at a used club store. As he notes, it doesn't have to be Ping obviously. Mine is a Callaway, but when the time comes for a replacement, I'm sure the numerous 5 year old options will be readily AND affordably available from many companies.
Depends on what you prefer. If you like a wider and narrower face and have no issues picking up the ball, yes Ping. If you need a taller profile for ease of picking the ball but hit center mass all the time, go titleist woods. Never gonna be a club that matches everyone’s swing profile.
g430 is/was a great lineup. Tough to top it by much but maybe the sound of the 440 improved another bit. g430 was much better there than 425. But they are all good performers and even look so similar..Ping doesn't mess with its formula too much. I'm a big fan of the 4 and 7 wood set up. Thanks for this comparison…i have a couple g430 hybrids that I can't do without.
I have abandoned driver entirely, and now game Mini-driver, 5 wood, 7 wood, 9wood, 11 wood, and 13 wood.
I was quite inspired by the up take of 7woods 2 years ago so I got myself the g430. Amazing club into par 5 greens… when little to no wind. In the wind it’s a total nightmare, something that spins and launches so high is very unpredictable. Equally off the tee I was find that having so much loft on a wood was giving a glancing strike on occasion.
I’ve been gaming a ping rapture 20 degree 7 wood for many years it’s my favorite club. Very consistent.
Re headcovers, I always replace with fu kg golourgul ones. Helps me identify quick too. Jees new clubs are bloody expensive though
Just got mine 3 wood SFT lofted up and SFT 7 wood. Both hit a nice draw.
I went with the G430 Max driver and nabbed two G425 hybrids 5 and 2). Love the 2h in particular. Thanks for the video. PING wins!
Perfect timing Andy and your best review yet 👌, why I have a g430 7Wood and a g410 5Wood, I’m thinking of updating my 5Wood to to the new g440 5 or 4Wood to be honest I don’t find much extra distance off the fairway with the 5Wood, my speed is much slower at 70mph than yours (should I test the new 4Wood?) Thanks Dickey 9hcp 78year senior golfer
So much money, can’t afford a golf club that expensive. Any cheaper options. Retired teacher in the usa
I've tried to play a 7 wood and it doesn't work for me, the ball flight was crazy high. So that is one thing that is a definite, if you struggle to get the ball in the air then yes it is a tool in the bag.
I have the G 7 wood this a great club found it used at play again sports $75.00
Great video. Gonna put a 7 wood for first
Time in my bag. Leaning towards the Ping. Curios I have you tried it off a tee and what numbers did you get? Did it spin to high?
Would love to see you compare the ping 9 wood against the 7. I have them both in the G425? Not much difference in distance for me 5 yd more maybe with the 7 wood, I find myself always grabbing the 9 for some reason I hit it better.
I scored a Callaway B21 7 wood last year on the Callaway Pre-owned website for $50.
It’s not the arrow it’s the archer! A good artisan does not blame his tools! You’ll get more benefit by using that money on lessons rather than another club that’s going to fix your swing….
