A GREENKEEPER is set to run his first marathon in 2025.

Greg Compton, who works at Parkstone Golf Club, has been a spectator at the London Marathon for several years and was inspired by the event.

After numerous applications, he has secured a place in the 2025 race.

The Cambridgeshire native, now living in Dorset, described a mix of “excitement and the Mara-noia setting in” when he found out he would be running.

Despite having an active lifestyle, he said he would not “consider himself a marathon runner”.

Mr Compton decided to raise money for Waggy Tails Rescue, a charity that rehomes dogs, after researching potential beneficiaries for his marathon efforts.

He said: “He would love to rescue a dog himself but unfortunately, he is not in the position to right now so he thought the next best thing he could do for Waggy Tails and the dogs they re-home is to try and raise a little bit of money for them and get their name out there even more.”

After visiting the centre, he said it gave him “the motivation he needed”.
