CUSTOMIZING YOUR CLUBS // Optimizing Fairway Wood Length & Weight for Your Swing!

Welcome back to the channel! In today’s video, Ian dives into an often overlooked detail in club fitting — the shaft length of your fairway woods. Both Ian and Mikey have been playing with slightly shorter 5 woods, and in this video, they break down why adjusting the length can make a huge difference in your performance. From improving strike consistency to optimizing spin rates, a few tweaks in your club setup could give you more solid shots and better control. If you’ve been struggling with your fairway woods, this video is for you!

  1. Hopefully not too obvious a question, but just choking down on the grip bring the same benefits as having a shorter shaft?

Haven’t got much access to fitting options where I live

  2. Interesting you’re not losing any distance by cutting an inch off when manufacturers are constantly making drivers longer for more distance 🤷🏼‍♂️

  3. I think this might actually be Ian and Mikey’s last ever video on this channel, but I’ve been saying that for a month. 😢

  4. Sir Mikey hitting some frozen ropes!!! Great video, Lads! Thank you for posting the chart during the video also. Very informative.

  5. I want to do this with 5 wood and driver. I'll take consistent strike and fairways over distance and in this case not much if any distance loss.

  6. Gearheads are gearheads. They can’t stay away, especially if they enjoy delivering some mentorship at the same time.

  7. Great video guys, with awesome results, you are getting really exceptionally good at what you do! I would love to go up for a fitting.

  8. With respect to the 1 1/4" difference in shaft length – would this entire amount be tip trimmed? Thinking of trying this myself, thanks!

  9. Hey @ClubChampion- if you need new content creators to keep the channel afloat let me know. Only so many more videos in the archive 😂

  10. I’m 6’2”. I play my driver 45.5” 3 wood 42.75
But my irons I play +.5”. It’s what works best for me. I’m a + handicap

  11. I personally tinker with this CG and Surefit setting everyday. I am no pro and my swing has a different feel everyday. Someday launch angle will lower and I will move it a notch up. Someday the spin will spike, so I change the lie a notch to flat. Then when my swing speed decrease around the 16th, I will change my loft angle weaker for the last 3 holes. I love these tinkerings. It's a fundamental to my swing and now I can't think without it. Great stuff.

  12. Loving this guys – great content. This is exactly what I've done with my G430 5wd and 7wd over the last year and it's worked really well. No loss of distance and much more consistent/efficient. I've now made a 5h that's 5 iron length that I can hit a high 190 carry consistently (lots of these shots round my course) and it's awesome – was a challenge to get weight into the head. The main issue with the 5h was lie (needed to be a lot more upright) and I've found the new Cobra adapter a game changer to make this work for me.

  13. I'm 1 minute in & I already know:
With a broken shaft 3W and 13 clubs in the bag:
This is exactly what I want to talk to my Club Champion fitter about next week.😊

After 3 yrs with you guys, this'll finish my bag.
At least, that's what I tell my wife 😅.

  14. I popped my 5W shaft into my 3W head with 4g of lead tape and it’s now one of my favorite clubs in the bag. Golf clubs are just tools and I think the more you can tailor them the better

  15. This is why a place like club champion sucks. You can’t get fit for these different lengths correctly. At all.

  16. I feel more comfortable hitting my 17° hybrid over my 18° fairway wood. Both travel about the same distance.

  17. Never buying a set of clubs from club champions again after ruining my golf YouTube routines. True spec is better anyways
