  1. Personally I’m the exact opposite of what Brodie is talking about. If I’m buying a disc with a player’s name on it, it is solely because I’m a fan of that player and the disc itself. Never once have I thought about helping them tour. Also, Simon didn’t sell less time lapses and lizzotl hexes after he got his huge payday. He undoubtedly sold more because of the fandom

  2. God ULI is so far disconnected from the average disc golfer it’s insane…. Almost all my friends and myself have bought discs to support their favorite players (even if it doesn’t) AB talks about using his code to support him on tour.. Brodie is absolutely right again.. uli just there to disagree

  3. Slow down Brodie uli is getting mad confused… And the Socki bomb general was $30 retail that’s why they failed ….

  4. Brodie, man of the people, when are you going to get something like BlueSky? Twitter is a hot garbage. I left because I was tired of seeing all the racism

  5. This was one of the best disc golf interviews I’ve ever seen. So fun listening to Jerm, and I loved how much he openly talked about 4 different company’s discs! I feel like that doesn’t happen.

  6. I don’t think people aren’t buying signature discs from a player if they already get paid a big salary. Look at Simon – everyone knows his contract and how much he’s salaried for, but his signature discs sell like crazy.

  7. I’ve talked to a number of emporia disc golfers on the team. DD did absolutely nothing for the team. Innova offered like the basics, shirts and maybe a couple disc or at least a discount. DD did none of that

  8. I feel like Brodie needs to take a page out of the debate night guys and do some actual research before commenting on certain subjects. The reason there's an Innova partnership with the Emporia University Team is because the team wanted to throw Innova discs, not DD. Eric McCabe has already clarified this previously before this podcast came out. Just saying dude, the info has been out there for a while

  9. I have bought 10-20 discs in my short 18 month time playing out of the 50-60 I have simply for the player on the disc. Didn’t care about how they flew, hell my simon pixel stays on my desk. Brodie is right.

  10. Personally when i buy a disc, its not necessarily to support the player. Its more about buying a disc that i think is actually good and will be good for my game. So when a new mold comes out and seems like it would fit a shot shape i have in mind, then i would consider buying. Im not just blinding buying discs to support players.

  11. People absolutely buy discs their favorite players throw. This has been going on for a long long time. Why then, does "most" commentary fail to include what discs are being thrown while covering events?
How hard would it be to tell viewers what discs are being thrown? Who cares if it ruffles feathers for whichever brand is sponsoring a particular event? It's not like an event sponsored by say, Discraft, makes all the competitors sponsored by Latitude 64 take off their team shirts before round play begins.

  12. They over charged on his discs by a lot and didn’t market him appropriately. As for Kona she just didn’t show up and live up to her contract. Yeah she has a great social media presence but she didn’t move discs and didn’t place well at all. I know she was sick but by the time she could come back she just couldn’t compete at the elite level.

  13. I'm not buying the flutter argument…it isn't alleviated by gyro tech…it has to do with the profile width and the shape of the rim imo….lower speed discs are more rounded and thicker and they flutter more

  14. It's refreshing to hear Jerm name discs from other companies when talking about his new MVP discs. It's absurd how other contracts don't allow pros to even mention other companies discs.

  15. 100% agree with Brodie's take on KC selling more discs with a $50,000 salary than if he got a $1,000,000 salary. People are eager to help make up for Innova's insufficient compensation of the Champ.

  16. Brodie's right about Innova making moves. Everyone who thinks that Innova is on the defensive with their player cuts is missing what they're going to do with the freed up capital.

  17. Kona had cancer surgery in her neck area. She fought through it and came back sooner than expected. Horrible scenario for her and horrible scenario for her sponsor. Of course she was going to play poorly through that.

  18. Brodie is right. I bought some Climo disc just to support him. I don’t really intend on using them. And I have bought many disc for this reason. Foundation members disc and even Brodie disc early on. There are a lot of people that do that.

  19. Yo Bog Jerm…it was a serious breath of fresh air just to hear your journey. I absolutely loved listening to the podcast and it makes sense. Playing disc golf should be fun and enjoyable and you should have that fire 🔥 in your belly. Otherwise it's not 100% pure and the struggle will definitely creep in. Thank you Brodie for asking i believe ALL the right questions, but I'd would have liked to see Uli get more involved.

  20. Ricky gets paid by DD. You’re forgetting the retailer cut when figuring the number of discs. If retailer pays $15 for $25 disc, you’d need way more sold to make Ricky contract worth it.

  21. Gimme RW and PMB side by side. Do it now. Please and thank you. That’s the most intriguing thing.

  22. Horrible math on the break even point. Manufactures don’t recover $25 a disc. They make good money on direct sales to customers. If the cost of the disc is $2 (and that may be accurate, injection molding is pretty cheap) then, yes, they make $23 for direct to consumer sales. Likely, they sell those discs to retailers for $12, so all those sales they only make $10 per disc. I would guess they sell more to retailers for than direct, but assume it is equal. That gives an average profit of $17.50 per disc. So, you have to sell over 57K discs per year to break even. On a $1M deal. But, my guess is they really need to sell 100K-125K to break even each year. And, it is business. They aren’t looking to break even, they are looking to make 5X to 10X off the deal. Now, you are looking at selling 500K-1M discs that are directly driven by the sponsored athlete. Very few can do this. I think Paul and Simon might be the only ones moving that volume.

  23. I didn’t buy Ricky’s discs when he was with dynamic because I don’t throw any dynamic discs. I will be buying his disc raft stuff because I throw disc raft plastic and I like his new logo. Idc what they’re paying him
