The Genesis Invitational will take place this week but sadly Tiger Woods will no longer be making his return to action.

The legendary golfer announced the sudden death of his mother, Kultida last week which had put his participation at the Genesis into doubt.

However, the 15-time major champion, who hasn’t played professionally since The Open last July, has now withdrawn after saying he isn’t ready to play so soon after his mother’s passing.

It means the icon won’t feature in the ‘Signature Event’ on the PGA Tour but an all-star field will battle for glory at Torrey Pines.

Japan star Matsuyama claimed glory in the Genesis last year, romping to victory at Riviera.

However, the tournament has been moved to Torrey Pines this February due to the horrific recent wildfires in California.

In a statement, the event said: “The PGA TOUR’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles.

“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.

“In collaboration with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club and TGR Live, and out of respect for the unfolding situation, we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16.

“The PGA TOUR is identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts.”

Torrey Pines, which hosted the US Open in 2008 and 2021, is the traditional venue of the Farmers Insurance Open which Harris English won just last month.
