Jobe Watson was drafted to Essendon in 2002 as a father-son selection, his dad Tim having been a 307-game club legend in the 80s and 90s. His debut in 2003 was far from memorable and in the early years of his career, he never looked like he would make it at AFL level.
But a move into the midfield in 2006 turned everything around and over the following seasons Jobe grew into one of the strongest and damaging on-ballers in the league. He went onto play 220 games for Essendon, captained the Bombers from 2010-2015, won best & fairests in 2009, 2010 and 2012, was All-Australian in 2012 and 2013 and was crowned a Brownlow medallist in 2012.
The tragedy of the Essendon supplements saga heaped more injustice on Jobe than just about anyone else, but throughout the darkest times he led the Bombers with distinction and class, exactly how he played throughout his career. This highlights package is a tribute to a brilliant player and an outstanding person, who will forever be the true 2012 Brownlow winner in my eyes. You are a star Jobe Watson and an absolute gun of a son!
(Shoutout to my brother for designing another awesome video intro!)

Love your work DW, that ANZAC day goal 😍
The Brownlow medalist himself.
wow
Great collection of highlights, I appreciate the work involved in making this. Well done.
He will always be a Brownlow medalist in my mind. His ability to read the play around heavy traffic to avoid contact and tackles with subtle movements was always mesmerising.
He looked slow at times but he was mentally very quick and just always made the right decision. His body size was probably quite difficult to match up on for opposition smaller framed midfielders. His thick strong legs gave him great power and strength to burst through and break tackles.
These are incredible highlights that I've never seen. Thank you so much!
The improvement in his kicking over his career is something I've never seen in any other player before or since.. He went from a liability to elite, which is near impossible to do.
This is an amazing video, he was an awesome captain and very influential and I forgot how good his highlights were. And probably number 4 of father sons after ablett, silvani and Scarlett
He is our 2nd best draft pick we have had since 2000.
1. Zach Merrett
2. Jobe Watson
3. Cale Hooker
4. Michael Hurley
5. Dyson heppell
Great video of the great man!
Legend 😎.
I remember the hype and the disappointment early on but somewhere in his 3rd or 4th year he improved his kicking after loads of work on it. Also became the in and under mid so it covered his lack of a turn of foot
