IT’S hard to believe so much five-star luxury sits so quietly nestled in a tiny South Ayrshire village.

But from the minute you’re greeted at the drive and approach the Trump Turnberry Hotel, you know you’re set for a luxurious stay.

The quaintness of the hamlet of Turnberry gives way to the iconic red roofs of this Edwardian masterpiece, owned by US President Donald Trump, overlooking the famous golf course and stunning coastline A

On arrival my wife Jen and I were warmly greeted while our bags were swiftly whisked up to our impressive deluxe ocean view room, with us following close behind.

The room had everything you’d expect, with an impressive king-size bed, beautifully fitted and spacious bathroom and a stunning panoramic view overlooking Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and the Argyll peninsula.

The hotel  offers plenty of activities to get the blood pumping in the beautiful surrounding Ayrshire countryside,  including horse riding, clay shooting, archery and off-road quad bike driving.

As an avid golfer, I couldn’t resist the chance to play one of the game’s most fabled links courses.

And boy, I wasn’t disappointed.

The course is simply stunning and should be a bucket list target for any lovers of hitting the little white ball.

The beauty of Trump Turnberry is that as well as offering adventure, it also delivers the perfect spot to find a bit of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Jen took the opportunity to check straight into the stunning spa, which  makes the most of the unrivalled views over the sea.

A Swedish massage was followed by a tranquil dip in the 65-foot heated infinity pool, both of which I was assured were thoroughly enjoyable.

We came back together to discuss our afternoons over dinner in the opulent 1906 Restaurant. The food certainly lived up to the surroundings, with yours truly enjoying a tasty crab and prawn cocktail before dining out on an expertly cooked fillet steak.

Jen opted for beef carpaccio followed by artichoke and black truffle ravioli, which were both delicious and wonderfully presented.

We shared a chilled chocolate fondant for dessert that filled us both up perfectly before heading through to the Grand Tea Lounge and Bar for a tasty nightcap — or two!

After a peaceful and unbroken sleep, we headed down to breakfast where more culinary delights awaited.

An incredible choice was presented and I went for the excellent eggs benedict, with Jen thoroughly enjoying her pancakes with fruit and maple syrup.

After another quick trip to the spa to enjoy the sauna and steam rooms, we checked out of our rooms seamlessly but decided to make the most of the rest of our weekend by exploring the area.

A lovely walk from the front of the hotel took us past the golf course, down along Turnberry beach and up to the famous lighthouse.

The scenery was simply stunning.

On our return to the hotel we sat down for a memorable afternoon tea in the Grand Tea Lounge that was as delectable as any we’ve had anywhere else.

First opened in 1906, the  hotel  retains several stylish nods to its significant history through the many pictures on the walls dating back over the last century but it’s anything but dated.

The interior is opulent without being over the top, while the staff are attentive and friendly without seeming insincere.

It’s safe to say Trump Turnberry truly delivers on its bid to offer excellence in every aspect of their game.

As the affable doormen helped load our bags into our car, long after we’d checked out, we were told to come back as soon as we could and to tell our friends and family to come and try it for themselves too.
