SCOTTISH golf hero Bob MacIntyre is winning friends and influencing people out at the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.

We told you how the Oban-born star has been proudly representing the colours of his Oban Celtic shinty team on the course and throwing jerseys into the rowdy crowd at the stadium hole 16th.

He’s made a big impression on fans

Around 16,000 boozed up punters can back into the triple decker suites at the famous hole which has become one of the rowdiest venues in golf.

And it has emerged that big-hearted MacIntyre, a man who knows his way around West of Scotland hospitality, has found a new way to endear himself to the golf fans.

Sky Sports golf reporter Jamie Weir revealed on Instagram that tied with a rubber band around each one of the Oban Celtic jerseys was a 20 dollar bill and a signed, hand-written note.

It read simply: “Get yourself a couple of beers. Cheers, B Mac.”

The Scottish golfer is a class act and he’s in decent shape at -5 after his first two rounds at Scottsdale.

That’s seven shots back, though, on Belgian leader Thomas Detry but a little bit of extra support from the crowd won’t hurt.

Most golf fans know how MacIntyre likes to keep his eye in with his hometown team at shinty when he gets the chance.

He may wear Celtic colours from time to time, but Macintyre draws support from all Scotland fans when he plays in the States.

When he won the Canadian Open in June 2024, a group of fans were spotted singing “Follow, follow, we will follow Bobby,” to the tune of a popular Rangers anthem.

Ranked No 17 in the world, the Ryder Cup winner, who had previously spoken of his struggles adapting to life in the USA, had his dad Dougie on his bag for what was his fourth – and biggest – win of his professional career.

He then claimed an emotional Scottish Open win – to go into the new campaign with plenty of hope and expectation.
