PIKE COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) – A local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter is getting some financial help in a unique way.
A “mega” mini golf course is coming to Pike County this weekend. It’s part of the Pittsfield FFA alumni’s annual “Pole Shed Open” tournament.
The traveling putt-putt course consists of nine-hole, hand-built courses spread across the county.
“We have some trophies and different awards for different things,” said Dusty Morrow, the event’s chairman. “Best Dressed Team, Best Dressed Individual [and] Loser Lagoon for the lowest score. [It] makes the event a little more enjoyable for them.”
Morrow said each year, the event raises money for local agriculture programs and scholarships.
“We funded the replacement of the greenhouse that was dilapidated and needed repair,” said Morrow. “We’ve also supported many trips and different conferences kids may go to. And we subsidize their travel fees.”
The Pole Shed Open starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Online ticket sales have closed. However, they can be purchased on the day of the event at Prairieland FS, Inc.
