BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WNDU) – Golfers of all skill levels will soon have a smaller, less intimidating course to play in Berrien County.

According to our reporting partners at The Herald-Palladium, Benton Harbor planning commissioners have approved a nine-hole “wee course” at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor.

Chris Cook, project manager and managing director and president of Harbor Shores Community Redevelopment, tells The Herald-Palladium they will start construction on the $3 million course as soon as they receive the required state permits, which is expected to take 30-90 days.

While a “wee course” is far from your regular golf course, it’s also far from “putt putt.” Cook said the wee course will have holes with distances in the 30- to 50-yard range, which is less than the 80- to 150-yard range for traditional par 3 courses.

It’s a great option for beginners and families who are worried about playing on a regular course due to their skill level and pace of play. Seasoned golfers can also use the smaller course to tweak aspects of their game or enjoy a little more golf in a relaxing atmosphere.

Cook said the nine holes on the course will be patterned after the ones on the regular course at Harbor Shores, with two different tees so golfers can still play 18 holes.

The Herald-Palladium says the “wee course” is expected to break ground later this year and be ready to be played on by the fall. A grand opening is expected in the spring of 2026.
