Todays video takes a close look at four golf clubs that have similar lofts but perform very differently. A 7 wood, 9 wood, 4 Hybrid and a 4 iron are all under scrutiny, how do they perform differently and who might they suit?

You are swinging these clubs very well. Probably swinging as good as I’ve seen you. I love the 7 and 9 woods
Look, I know I have said this before But how is this relevant to playing on a course with no level lies!
Always found it impossible to get any distance with my 4 iron. Did have both 7 wood and 4 hybrid in my bag, before settling on 4 hybrid as I found it more versatile to use, whereas my 7w was just a pop it up and send it club for me.
I play driver, 5w lofted down, 9w, 4h, 5h, 6h, 7-9i. If i did a 3 or 6 club challenge, I would probably take my 7w, which is a favourite, but I cant get the gapping to either 5w or 9w worthwhile.
Good vid 👍🏻
gimme 4 hybrid any day … shaft length 5 cm less … I'll have less lateral dispersion. 10 m extra role out? … if that's to much I'll use my 5 hybrid.
It depends on what sort of course you play. A 7 and 9 wood are not particularly useful on links/coastal courses. Hybrids with lower spin are better in this situation
I hit 55 last year, and as a senior golfer, treated myself to a G430 9W as a birthday present. Wow! Game changer for me. After many many inconsistent iron strikes when trying to hit Par 3 greens at 150+, the 9w is amazing. Much easier to hit, with the type of ball flight and shot shaping a good iron player can generate. It's like having a cheat code. I don't reach the ball speeds or carry given here, which makes this club even more useful.
I have also taken my 3w out of the bag. Whilst it may give a bit more distance, my 7w (again Ping g430) offers only a little less distance, but 5x as much reliability.
Basically if you lack speed bin your 4 iron👍👍 I'd go 7 wood nice in between club
Please put the data up on the screen rather than recording a tv with it on. This is such lazy editing
High lofted woods aren't just for slow swings, Im a High SwSpd player and carry a 9 wood.
9 wood before I watch it 💥🏌🏻♂️
Driver, 4 wood (coming), to 4 hybrid. Might regret the 4wood over a 5, but it’s at 16.5 degrees so not too far off, and second hand was much cheaper than the 5 woods
Good video … but from the data, your club head speed (for your driver is 100 mph … which is at least 10 faster than an amateur golfer's 18 hcp
For sure, everything with a landing angle lower than 40 degrees is useless for an amateur
7w is to make distance instead of 3 or 5 … then hybrid or wood to complete the set … iron from 7, I would say
Useful test but probably needed the descent angles on the data at the end.
Andy, up to about 4 years ago a 7 wood was 24* and a 5 wood- you can find them all over used for under $20 was 21*. The 9 wood was 27*. It is confusing when u talk club name and not degrees of face- thanks for clarifying this. Been using 21* club for years-it's great.
Love these summaries, thank you sir! Working on trying to figure out what I want to do with the top end of my bag. I can still hit the 4 iron, but starting to see the same thing where there's a significant gap when I hit it pure vs not so much. Looking for the club I can be more consistent with. Maybe I just need to play more, or get some lessons, but that'll come too.
I am in my 70's and now carry an 11 wood besides a 9 and 7 wood. They have changed my game immensely as my swing speed goes down. The game got a lot more fun with these clubs. Thanks for the video validating my game.
I'm rocking 4 hybrid and 5 wood to driver and they work perfect for me!!
I just got a 7 & 9 wood and absolutely love the ease of playing those clubs. I did keep my 4 wood to use when I have to keep it low because of trees or to hit a runner.
With only half a degree between them …for me 7 wood or 9 wood…have a 7 and 9 wood in my bag…
Thank you Andy. I think at the end of the day it comes down to the individual swing of each person hitting the clubs. Some might prefer the woods , some the hybrid and the real ones go for the 4 iron. 😊😊😊
Hi Andy, I now carry a Mizuno ST-G five wood (it’s a titanium beast) plus the ST-G driver. 3-5 hybrids and then 6 iron to sw. I’m 60 and got fitted into graphite shafts to keep my swing speed up and help the elbows. The shafts are 85 grams.
(66 and H 6,1) Driver, 7 wood, 9 wood, 7-LW for me, occasionally put in a Mizuno 4 driving Iron as a fairway finder.
the smash factor on the hybrids and fairway woods were nearly maxed out at 1.49. that is impressive, it is unlikely that the average player is going to get that out of the 4 Iron. Great video Andy! 😁
excellent job Andy. I carry a 7w, 4 & 5 hybrid. For whatever reason, 7w goes around 215 and 4H 205. Has to be the shaft length as the 7 is 21* and 4H 22*.
Dont take it to links course or play on a windy day. I had to get a few bits for different course and conditions
i think a lot of average golfers will automatically put driver, 3 and 5 wood in their bag.
i carry a callaway 7 wood and 5 hybrid. wish id listened sooner……
I carry 2 and 3 Adam’s hybrids, they’re so easy to hit I feel like I’m cheating.
I would be interested to know your yardages with each club
Good video. These clubs, excluding the 4 iron which I dropped over 20 years ago, I am 70, I have a 7 wood 19° which works well but I have a gap between it and my 27° hybrid/ wood. Hybrid or 9 wood? I'm not sure. Leaning to the 9 wood.
