Stephen grabs two cues from the rack in the snooker club and looks into the key differences between them compared to his John Parris cue. Stephen also answers questions along the way for how you can improve your cue at home, no matter the standard.
Let us know in the comments which cue you have and what you think of it!

The guy in the top left has not missed a bit of this
Efren Reyes …playing with a taped $10 cue beating everybody!
I'm a beginner and wanting to buy my first snooker cue, would anyone have any recommendations for £100 or so?
As an engineer, sample size was way too small, and there was no elimination of bias on how psychology of playing with a bad cue affects the player vs with good cue. Still, liked the video and I did appreciate the fact that the video didn't appear to be fabricated.
My take from this just confirms my …existing confirmation bias. Having good equipment helps, but it's not probably the first thing you should focus on while being within one standard deviation from the mean of all hobbyists. Unless good equipment makes you want to do something you enjoy even more often, which is a thing too, sure.
A 5 grand cue Lolol.
One of the greats and can’t put a tip on, doesn’t know what finish goes on the cue, just goes to show you don’t need to pay as much attention to that as you do just playing the game
Great video Stephen big friends with John Spencer in the 1970s how he played with his cue was amazing it was like a dogs back leg it was his 1st cue I think it cost 15 shillings but he won two world championships with it perhaps you could comment thanks
Once you get used to a crap cue, you will make the shot no problem if you are good. Same goes for a musical instrument, if you are good you can play a crap cheap instrument just like en expensive instrument. I believe a shiny lacquered cue will resist on your skin which interferes in the shot.
I had a maple cue Stephen, Dufferin. Had it 30 years and gave it away 😡
Bringing your own cue can feel embarrassing if your play is below average.
What happened to your championship winning cue😮
I have a cue my Grandad made when he was 15! Rileys Accrington (its circa 75-80 years old)… Its perfectly straight but needs a new tip, its just wood on the end and im not sure how to get it done, i also want it to be cleaned and re finished so i can put it in a display cabinate with a little placard
Just the tip
40 pound cue and you win titles
I bought an ash cue yesterday 22 pounds for pool tables ,now you tell me ash is bad
I always find out the reality after I spend my money
Doh
cue is cue
When i was researching to move into my first "decent" cue… I worked out that it was probably around the £120 mark where you got something that is probably as good as most people ever need for day to day playing. I ended up with a Peradon Edwardian 3/4 jointed cue. I do, however, see that the price has now increased to over £200 for the same one. That said, I like it, its one of the first price points where a solid ebony butt allows it to use natural weight rather than having weights added inside (which rattle and become loose). It's also a 3/4 with threaded end piece, so extensions / mini butts etc are all useful. I've been delighted with it, well made, nicely finished, and good features.
Pub cues are the worst by far, I wouldn't use most of them to run my runner beans up!
Didn’t you win all your titles on a cheap cue?
Hi Mr Hendry from Alex in Australia. My impression of you now compared to when you were in your prime (playing days) is starkly different. Now, to me, you are personable, very endearing to us viewers, and genuinely give good advice. And I'm not even a snooker player, but love the game. May I suggest a come back, a serious one! Many thanks. Oh, and I do wish 'experts' would consider their audience and not assume so much they those of my ilk are not familiar with snooker's isms (just a little respectful whinge).
So I had 2 JP’s snapped them both in half because if was crap. So a cue not make you better tbh.
You a terrible player and it's the person not the cue that's the fault you just can't do nothing you just blame the cue or tip
I could have a Paris cue and I'd still be 💩
Sir Pottsalot
Discount code for John Parris website?
What do you think of britannia cues
What are britannia cues like do you have one in your collection
Hi Sir , what is your opinion on carbon fiber cue ? Please respond. Thanks
expensive cues are mostly jewelry I think
It’s not always the cue’s fault if you can’t pot the balls , a bad craftsman always blames his tools .
any comments
I’ll never forget when I got beat by a drug addicted he threw up grabbed a house cue and I never touched the table. Didn’t even look at the tip or anything it was crazy and eye opening from that point forward
I've learned to never put cue tips in my ear…
God i didnt know how much the cue makes a difference ive been playing forever with just the bars cues, didnt think it mattered too much (the guys i was seeing with their own cue were worse then me and im not the best) but was playing this old dude who had his own cue, i noticed he was getting a decent bit of action on the cue ball asked him if i coukd use his cue for a longer backspin shot i didnt think i could ever have made, i goddamn overspun it.. anyways now i gotta buy a cue lmao
To be fair he could play with a twig and be better than me.
I'll play with a shaved-down broomstick, a wooden dowel…I may not like cues others use… it's not about the stick… it's the player…don't get me wrong,.I own and play with very nice cues …but if you can really play.. you'll make it work in your favor
Just sayin…😊
George Micheal play snooker now? 🙄
I'm amazed that you can't put your own tip on your cue Stephen 😄
Seven world titles on a £40 cue, now that's a return on investment!
Tis a bit ironic pronoting expensive cuea given what you played with. Sellout
7:28 So it's the grain catching my beard… makes sense I thought there was a microscopic dent on my queue 😂😂😂😂
