  1. My brother taught me a long time ago the max is double par plus 1. At that point you pick your ball up and goto the next hole.

  2. That's why Stableford scoring was invented !! by Dr Frank Stableford at Wallasey Golf Club.

  3. To learn the USGA scoring guidelines BEFORE booking a tee time, and hit the driving range, would be the decent etiquette! People don't care and if they're not playing competitive golf, etiquette and course rules don't matter to them! At the very least, if you're trying to learn how to golf out on the golf course, book a tee time towards the end of the day so you are at least not holding up the leagues of competitive golfers!

  4. 8 strokes. Finish the hole for practice if you aren’t slowing play down for other players. Otherwise pick up your ball, go to the next hole, try again.

  5. This must be fake. No one in their right mind, unless playing a stroke play tournament, would do this.

  6. Jesus. My first ever round was a 112 and I've been worse a couple times I know I had a 130 before. 😂 most of the time I break 100. If I've not completed a hole in 10 shots I'm picking up and moving on 😂 only ever continued once for an 11.

  7. In Germany we have to take a course and pass a pretty simple playing ability test before being allowed to play on a "big course".. you learn the rules, etiquette and get some basic swing lessons.. it's a pain in the ass (and costs money) but it does prevent this sort of thing from happening xD

  8. 1) The cynic in me thinks that didn’t happen. 2) If no one was on the course, guy could have split off from him. 3) Seems like a gag. There’s no way, unless he just picked up a club that day, that it would take 15 strokes to play any hole.

  9. 5 over par max, so:
    8 on a par 3
    9 on a par 4
    and 10 on a par 5

After that pick ‘em up, unless you’re playing stroke play in a tournament.

Actually, I scored a 12 once in a stroke play tournament, where I sliced my ball in the trees, had a couple of whacks to hit it out, then struck a red stake where the water hazard began, whereby my ball ended up going BACKWARDS, behind the tee box. I then managed to hit the rubbish bin next to the tee box, ending up on the other side of the fairway in the trees, two more strokes to get out. Now the balls in the fairway for 8, hit it in the green side bunker, two to get out, but only two putts for a solid 12.

That’s not the worst though: My playing partner did worse that round; on a par 3 he managed to slice 6 balls in the water from the tee, after finally getting one on the green, he then 3 putted for a solid 16!!! If he didn’t lend him a few balls he couldn’t have finished the round and would’ve gotten DQ-ed.

  10. Double Par is the Standard we use. Also we treat OB shots and lost balls like lateral hazards. Nothing more deflating than standing on the Tee box watching someone hit multiple balls off the tee 1-3-5-7. Or spending 5 minutes looking for your tee shot and by rule you’re supposed to drive back to the tee and hit another. Well most public courses the next group is already on the box probably annoyed you took 5 minutes to look for your ball.

  11. Ya if your a beginner double par max and move to the next hole. Keep up the pace of play do not ruin the whole day for the entire golf course and golfers .

  12. Par + Par + 2 should be the max and how I play. If you can't get in the hole in 8, 10 or 12 shots, you aren't ready to be on course.

  13. Quite simple, you start off playing stableford 36 handicap gives you two stokes extra per hole
    Off the stick
    par 4pts
    1 over 3pts
    2 over 2 pts
    3 over 1pt
    4 over pick up
When you can shoot 2over or better every hole you can start playing stroke😊😊😊

  14. That sounds insane IF it is genuine, surely after a few holes you would have politely asked him to pick up then drop into the green for some putting practice.
Had him just hitting with a 7 iron to get some sort of strike and progress

  15. That is how you learn… im a newish player and my role as a beginner was I played alone mostly., no more then 5 minutes to look for a lost ball and no more then 3 over per hole if anyone is behind me , eventually i got somewhat better 😂

  16. Feel like this is a lie. Nobody is this inept. Go to range first at least be able to hit it roughly in the right direction. I think 10 shots per hole should be a course rule, after that you pick up your ball wait for your playing partners to finish and on to the next tee. Otherwise you ruin it for everyone.

  17. Guys You should just have to pick up after 10 shots even 8 really! come on now it just awkward and embarrassing for everyone involved otherwise, move on get some lessons 🤷‍♂️

  18. On a slow day, 10 stroke max, busy days 8 stroke max. If you already 3 putted and you still aren't in the hole, pick up your ball and move on.

  19. See, I agree it’s hard one because if you put a limit, people are gonna be even more scared and not even bother getting into golf on the flipside you have to have some sort of limit because otherwise it could be ridiculous like this story and that’s for guidance lots of people just can’t afford it and we want people to get in the sport that make it harder to get in

  20. We do double par. So if you’re on a 3 and you reach 6. Just pick it up. It’s not your hole. Obviously not competitions or anything but recreationally for semi shit, fair weather golfers having fun. double par is a great rule. Stops the frustration of a stinker.

  21. The guy's first time on a course and looking for support. Why didn't the player suggest a number to then 'pick up' and move on knowing that it was his first time out?. It must have been deflating for the noob also. What a shame!
