You need an international draft
The entire "handshake deal" with the Dodgers is a load of nonsense. He was already leaning towards the Dodgers and wanted to see how other teams operated and see what they had to offer.
A lot of talk about how fans “feel” and what their “perception” is, despite facts and common sense pointing in a different direction.
What’s the point of fueling conspiracies based on hard feelings?
I'm being honest when I say I have zero interest in watching any games this years. I'll probably watch the playoffs but for the first time am not excited at all for baseball to start. And yes it's all because of the Dodgers and the no salary cap.
I get what people are saying about the dodgers just playing by the rules, but nobody’s arguing that. The thing people like myself are pissed at is that this takes a lot of the competitive fun out of things when a team is allowed to become so much better than the rest. We can argue all day about what should be done about that, or if anything should, but there are so much people straight up denying that it’s less fun now and it’s frustrating to see because of how many people, dedicated or casual fans of baseball, don’t care as much about this upcoming year directly because they see the dodgers buying everyone under the sun. A huge part of the baseball world feels sort of dejected about this year, and regardless of who you’re a fan of or how you feel about the Dodgers, you can’t deny that this just sucks for a lot of fans.
All teams had $150 million from revenue sharing. Half of the league's total salary is under $150 million. Owners do not want to spend.
I'm an Astros and general baseball fan, and anybody crying about the Dodgers are ridiculous. You still have to play the game. People are always fine with it when it's there team and cry when it isn't.
I really hope Chris isn’t the guy who voted no on Ichiro. Because that was the most hipster “everyone on Earth can see this as true plain as day, so I’m gonna answer false because I’m edgy” action I’ve ever seen 😂 and I like and respect Chris and his opinion.
My question for chris rose /coach Trevor which 26 players are on opening day
For the dodgers
Few things in life (and I can't think of one now) are better by lowering the standards, baseball sure isn't one of them. The problem is not solved with a cap, either in salary or in the amount of money that can be deferred, the problem is the lack of a salary floor. A cap won't make the cheap/lousy owners to spend more, not in quantity nor wisely.
The Dodgers have the TV deal advantage? yes, of course….it's undeserved? hell no!! they invested in such a way that their product is more than appealing, not only in LA but pretty much worldwide
Small market teams should use the revenue sharing money (200M+ per year) to get better players, that's a good start to upgrade their teams and get better TV deals.
A lot of people like to say that all teams can spend like the dodgers, but that is not actually true. If you compare teams like the As or the Marlins vs the Dodgers based on location alone it's easy to see why not. Oakland and Miami each have a population under 500k, Los Angeles has a population of over 3.8 million people. LA is the second most populated city after NY, with high marketing and profit revenue opportunities. There is no way teams in small markets such as Oakland or Miami can compete. Some people like to say Say Dodgers fans are the best because they have high attendance and support their team while other teams fans don't . If only 15 % of LA's were Dodger Fans that would still be more than if all of Miami's population was 100% fans, so there is no comparison. A salary cap could potentially equalize the playing field, but still probably not.
The dodgers owner is only the FIFTH richest GM in baseball. So why arent the other teams ahead of them going out and getting these guys?! Because it tha FUGGIN Dodgers
The Dodgers were cheating! Roki Sasaki was acting! Many people are saying that!
You seem overly emotional, like a feminist.
The Dodgers aren't breaking any rules, but they ARE taking the fun out of baseball…at least for now.
12:36 I'm looking forward to the regular season. The playoffs? I anticipate it'll be more of the same collection of teams at the end. For a life long Orioles fan, I know this is the best my team will likely ever be in my lifetime, but I still assume they will never will a World Series again in my lifetime, and as soon as they're not competitive, I'm sure I'll go back to being a more casual fan. Not being petty, just being honest.
18:29 Plouffe just out of hand dismissing that some of the Sasaki exercises were for show is interesting. Yeah, he's a 23 yo kid, but it's not like he's doing this on his own. You hire an agent to craft a strategy and implement it. Do we seriously believe an agent would never suggest such a thing? These are lawyers we're talking about, and that's coming from a lawyer.
I’m having a blast! Go dodgers!!
Great stuff, guys!
How about limiting the number of players you can have w contract deferrals on your roster at the same time? Or only allowing contract deferrals on contracts over 5yrs in length?
The IFA pool money needs to have a wider spread between the top and bottom teams more similar to the draft slot allotments. Maybe 6 tiers of 5 teams seperated by record, luxury tax, market size, etc…
Allow IFA pool money to roll over year to year but also only able to be used on IFAs so when big fish like this come up there's a much larger discrepancy between what they can earn by going where.
perception = watchability
its not about who wins its about having a team of guys you can root for.
Trev right about the Dodgers re other teams
“People I’m not a dodgers fan” as he takes the most pro-dodger stances at jomboy media
“People I’m not a dodgers fan” as he takes the most pro-dodger stances at jomboy media
Why didnt this episode go to audio podcasts? Spotify and Apple Podcasts dont show it
100% yes
Trevor hella delusional. Iam starting 2 think he a blue pilled simp
The Dodgers have not taken the fun out. On the contrary….Viewership is up, and podcast content (like yours) during the off season has to be at an all time high. Without the Dodgers and Yankees in the playoffs…..hardy anyone would watch. Also….yes….its NOT a foregone conclusion the Dodgers will win so all the more reason for the haters to WATCH Dodgers baseball.
BASEBALL IS IN TROUBLE , DODGERS TROUBLE ! GO AHEAD AND GIVE THEM THE WORLD SERIES THROPHY !! LOPE SIDED FROM THE WORD GO …
clips of this are gonna be used in a future documentary about the 2025 Dodgers
From 1920 until 1964 the Yankees dominated baseball like no team since. Funny, but wasn't that the "Golden Age." Now the Dodgers have won two WS since 1988 and they are destroying baseball. Vegas is giving them a 32% chance of repeating but no one else can compete. LA defers contracts and it's bad, other teams do it and no one notices.
Was this posted on Apple too? I missed this one but don’t see it on there
There's Dodgers hate… there's envy… I admire the ownership wasting no time signing players to win a championship. The ownership created an environment for players wanting to play for…
Good players are still available. But, also know.. There's no guarantees in baseball…
Lol the blue jays are so not back
It’s truly amazing how you try to say in one breath that there is all of this parity because of what history shows. But you don’t take into account that no team has ever been built like this. Then you speak of the 09 Yankees who did something similar, and they went ahead and won that year. So you literally contradicted yourself multiple times. What is the point of defending this situation and acting like it’s a good thing?
“No repeat winners in 25 years so you can’t say the year is already over”
“Yankees bought players like this in 2009 and won it all”
Do you guys even listen to yourselves?
I love how people are hating on the dodgers for reinvesting the money they earned during the season back in the team, unlike other owners who just pocket the money. Hate on your cheap ass owner instead for not spending
I started watching baseball recently because of Shohei and look forward to watching the Dodgers play. From a viewership perspective, it's good for baseball.
Hey JM Baseball team, heads up that this episode never got uploaded to Spotify, which is where I normally listen to this while I’m at work. Hope you guys see this.
Love the show, and respect to Plouffe and Rose for always being so kind and respectful to the terrible situation us Oakland fans have been going through, this is largely how I still stay engaged with baseball now
Owners who are charging $25 for a hotdog and a beer while putting a shitty product on the field are ruining baseball.
Is there a reason this wasn’t on Apple pods? Was a void in my week without it
Even if I were in the Navy why the fuck would I need to see 10 disruptive ads in a 40 minute podcast (which already has 3-4 unnecessary ads) for Navy Federal Credit Union
It's on the owners of the other teams, plain & simple… you could blame the Dodgers all you want (for the ones crying about it), but at the end of the day, the rest of the leagues' owners are the ones who don't want to open their checkbooks
Ichiro came into the league at 27 and still got 3000 hits the stats makes him the ultimate hall of famer is the 10 seasons in a row with 200 hits and his batting average when he got his third hit to raise his batting average to 300 and it never went below there
19:15 that’s the art of war
