GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)—City-owned municipal golf courses Lincoln Park and Tiara Rado raised their prices on January 1st, 2025.
The new weekday play price is $12 at Lincoln Park and $46 at Tiara Rado. Tim Tafoya, director of golf for Grand Junction, explains why this price increase was necessary.
“{the money} goes back into golf and hopefully ensures that Lincoln Park and Tiara Rado are here for a very long time,” said Tafoya.
Tafoya explains that even though the golf courses are owned by the city of Grand Junction, they do not collect city tax revenues, meaning all the expenses are funded from the course’s revenue.
Expenses for the courses include sand, seed, and other materials to keep the greens maintained, as well as renovations made to enhance the course.
Tafoya shares one of the many renovations being made to Lincoln Park is a new cart path for golf carts.
Tafoya said the courses haven’t seen a decrease in play and the golfers have been supportive of price changes.
“They understand the increase in the cost because our expenses increased and we run these golf courses like businesses,” said Tafoya.
One golfer says the price increase hasn’t stopped him from coming to Lincoln Park to golf.
“Prices are always inevitable, but the increase wasn’t a huge amount, and as far as this golf course goes, it’s still the best bargain in the market. A couple of bucks increase, well worth it,” said Mike Holmes, a long-term Lincoln Park customer.
The price of golf passes has risen as well. With a $100 increase to both, the birdie pass is now $500, and the eagle pass is $800.
