Ian Woosnam is a former world number one golfer and the 1991 Masters Champion. He is celebrated as one of the best European players, with 29 European Tour wins, eight Ryder Cup appearances, and a captaincy victory against the United States in 2006.

One amazing thing is that the most lofted club in his bag when he won the Masters was a 55-degree wedge!

  1. So interesting to see the change in Woosie’s confidence when they went to the bunker. Obviously felt a lot more confidence in what he was doing in the sand vs the earlier chipping work.

  2. Just shows, even a great champion like Ian can go down a wrong path in an effort to get a result. Big fan of Dan's and his teaching

  3. So cool to see a former world number one and masters champion being humble enough to say hey I'm struggling I need help, just awesome!

  4. Watched Woosey in 1988 at Riverside Oaks Golf Club(NSW/Australia), on the range next to Greg Norman and they were both hitting drivers and Woosey was hitting past Norman who was probably the best driver in history! I can't describe what an incredible sight it was to see, the ball flight, sound etc, this small man was a massive hitter!! Kid's this man is a LEGEND!

  5. Bunkers – I was taught old school, open stance, swing left, open club face and I was a decent bunker player. Recently one of the juniors at our club was hitting bunker shots and hitting them close!! I asked him about his method(he had been getting lessons from a modern pro) and he set up with a closed stance and swung with a body draw and the results were so good, so I tried his way and omg talk about improvement. Crazy game aye…

  6. This is great. Amazed at how great his bunker game is but his short game was a wreck. Just goes to show how even the greats have strengths and weaknesses.

  7. Dan, you are seriously cementing yourself as the best youtube coach/creator with every video you produce.

  8. I love the way just like us he wants to stop the talk and and get on with hitting the ball. Great video

  9. Dan, you surely deserve all the golfers on the planet as subscribers. I am far away from being good, but improving with every video you do. One day I need to see you one hour in person. All the best to Woosy!!!

  10. I used to love watching Woosie play golf esp in the world match play. For me to watch, it was late at night time.
I recall a final b/w Faldo and Woosie.
Possibly the best golf I've seen (maybe superseded with Stenson and Mickelson in the last round of a British Open.
I was barracking for Woosie when he won the Masters.
Woosie, if you're reading – re watch this lesson. You tried to do the things DG asked.
After so long it must be difficult to change, but your technique looked so much better when you did.
    Thanks for sharing

  11. You can hear the anxiety in Ian's voice.
This entire episode is the story of my lost short game

    Thank you both!!!

  12. Very interesting! – you've got a great eye Dan. Wonderful to see how Ian 'respects' the turf and is hitting all the shots from within a 6 inch circle.

  13. The chipping yips are likely incurable. If you still have feel you can chip well with bad technique. Technique changes are merely a bandaid if you are mentally yips diseased. Mental issues in golf are inexplicable and ugly. Sorry for Mr. Woosnam. You can hear him whistling in the dark. Confidence is gone. Nice man. Golf is heartless but at least Woosie had his day in the sun.

  14. Woosie, I always marveled at your golf swing. Such a powerful release. I miss the golf of the 80s and 90s. To me, that was an amazing era.

  15. Beautiful instruction. Understandable. Well articulated. Woosman drove the ball soooo long as a young man. Great player. Seems like such a good fellow.

  16. This very shot that he has is not a 58 wedge shot ! I see this so often from all players ! The only shot to be played from there is a chip and run ! 8 or 9 iron even a chipper !🤔

  17. What a humble and down to earth bloke Woosie is. In his prime, he was one of the best players in the world, a superb ball striker and yet he’s still keen to learn and improve. Brilliant video Dan, fascinating to see just how simple you both make it.

  18. From a novice of the game, maximum possible respect to an absolute golfing legend able to show such humility, character and determination to still improve. What an inspiration to people like me!

  19. Dan, have you ever used the Hackmotion wrist sensor? I would be curious to see your wrist motion on release 1,2, & 3 to base some practice shots on. It would be good to see the data if possible. Love the content and watch and rewatch. Your teaching and demeanor are amazing.
