For our second edition of NLU Special Projects, we continue to look at the unbelievable difficulty of booking tee times at certain public golf courses as we head to Long Island and Bethpage State Park – the host of this year’s Ryder Cup, as well as the 2002 & 2009 US Opens and the 2019 PGA Championship.

  1. Just listened to the podcast version. Tremendous listen. Felt like listening to one of those ‘Serial’ story podcasts. Fantastically done KVV – fascinating story.

  2. As always KVV does an incredible job. I play the course at least once a week during the season. Just to add to the bot conspiracy, I've played with 2 guys in the last year that admitted they had a friend that wrote a script to get tee times. Im sure there are more out there. But the front office refuses to believe that there is something going on with the reservation system.

  3. As someone who cares about public golf, please keep these stories coming! Local access needs to be protected. And "Taylor" has no soul … he loves golf SO much that he's willing to screw over others who also love the sport, and laugh about it. Disgusting.

  4. Just registered for the 7 day resident access at Bethpage because it was impossible with the 5 day. Hope it gets better.

  5. Frank and Tony wasting their talents cracking the Bethpage reservations syatems lol, they should be robbing banks with those skills and patience

  6. KVV is the best. Obviously state park officials are being paid off. Why else would they deny the problem?

  7. Half the price of the tee time up front (for everyone you book for) and only 2 cancellations a month. This would help so much.

  8. Pre COVID, I could dial in 7 days in advance and get a mid-week, mid-day, NYS senior time with no problem. Since, COVID, I have a better chance of getting a date with Taylor Swift! Years ago, they found Mets employees were getting a payoff from ticket brokers. Is the same thing happening at BP?

  9. Also, adding to the challenges of the Black course, it’s walking only, no riding carts, and the routing is all the way out then back. If you score a snowman on number nine you are a long way away from the clubhouse.

  10. These are so well done and I can't wait for the next one. KVV continues to be the most additive addition to any golf media company in years!

  11. I live ten minutes from Bethpage. I've tried every weekend for a year to book 7 days out and only got a single time on the Blue. 7:00 and 01 seconds, they're all gone. Even all through December when it was freezing out. I mountain bike in BSP a lot. Right behind the Black course (North side) is a really fun section called the Brickyard. There's a great view of the 15th and 16th on black from up there.

  12. Really well done pod. However, there’s two sides to every story. I play the Black once a month.. and while it’s tricky it’s definitely possible. I’ve been out there more than 50 times since COVID, all booked legit. Have me on the pod I’ll talk about how I harness my inner Joey Knish and grind for times.

Also have gotten to know the personalities out there.. place is most special on earth.. cathedral of golf with a twist of the Sopranos. Nothing like a 5 hour kick in the family jewels only to have the bartender make fun of you because you’re not from Strong Island 💪

  13. The struggle for times is real. They could do so much better, but its run by state employees that have zero golf experience. The rangers are useless, looking for golf balls on the sides of the courses. They say they aren't allowed to speed people along. People play the tips and they suck, making pace worse. Again, nobody polices anything except tee times.
