Tony Finau turned professional at 17, bypassing basketball scholarship offers, and began competing on mini-tours like the Gateway Tour and NGA Hooters Tour. He gained recognition in 2009 by finishing second on The Big Break Disney Golf. In 2013, he played on the PGA Tour Canada, earning his Web.com Tour card after finishing T-3 in qualifying school. Finau won his first Web.com title at the 2014 Stonebrae Classic, securing his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season. He claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open in a playoff, which boosted him into the FedEx Cup top 25. In 2017, he chose to pursue the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play but narrowly missed qualifying for the event.
