SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—According to a recent newsletter sent to its members, Deer Lake Golf Course in Springfield may have to reduce its size from 18 holes to about nine.

In the newsletter, Great Life acknowledges it stated that it purchased the golf course in 2019. However, the agreement allowed the former owner to repurchase it for development. Great Life says the development will include softball and baseball fields.

“There was an agreement with the previous owner that they could buy back the land if they wanted to, and now they want to go in conjunction with the sports complex next door. They want to build some softball fields,” said Deer Lake General Manager Corinne Brixey.

KY3 contacted Betty and Bobby Allison Sports Town, the golf course’s neighbors. Representatives said to call Philcrest Properties, Inc. We have not received any additional information from Philcrest other than what is in this newsletter.

Golfers in the Ozarks are concerned about the impending change.

“Everybody who plays it (Deer Lake) loves it,” said Golf Pro Devin Ryan.

Deer Lake Member Brad Sims said he met his wife at the golf course and has been a member on and off for many years.

“It’s a part of me. It’s something I always considered, you know, the place I became me at,” Sims said.

We’ll update you on-air and online when we have more details about the golf course’s future.
