LaunchPad Golf – Calgary
The planned LaunchPad Golf centre at the Durham Live entertainment district in Pickering will be the company’s flagship and anchor an expansion to six new locations across Canada.
Golf Canada is reporting that LaunchPad Golf is set to “significantly expand” its footprint with new venues in north Calgary, south Edmonton and Richmond, B.C., as well as new sites in Markham and Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario.
The Pickering location has been in the works for some time for the Durham Live project, which already has a resort casino and 5-star hotel, with a boutique hotel, convention centre , amphitheatre, restaurants, cinemas, high-rise luxury apartments and other amenities in the works and the Porsche ‘Experience’ nearing completion.
Durham Live/Pickering Developments owner Steve Apostolopoulos asked the City of Pickering to re-zone a portion of the site in November to allow for a “unique recreational facility,” with LaunchPad Golf signing a ‘Letter of Intent’ the previous year to bring its “innovative, exciting, and immersive” driving range concept to Pickering.
The LaunchPad facilities will boast climate-controlled suits for year-round use and will be marketed for everything from corporate events to casual outings.
“Our Canadian expansion demonstrates our dedication to redefining entertainment through continuously evolving technology and premium social environments,” LaunchPad Golf CEO Barry Ehlert said in a press release. “Each new location will deliver a world-class blend of interactive gaming, cutting-edge technology, delicious food, and a lively social atmosphere for people of all interests.”
The six new locations reflect LaunchPad’s ambition to “redefine” entertainment by blending interactive gaming and advanced technology to bring people together for “memorable experiences.”
Pickering Councillor Maurice Brenner believes the golf centre will be a “good fit” for the Durham Live lands – “I can understand the golf in terms of a destination point” – but said “no dates have been presented” to Pickering Council for a construction schedule.
LaunchPad Golf currently has two locations in Canada – both in the Calgary area – with memberships ($1,999 +GST per year) valid at all future locations.
