It’s a ‘SUPER’ Tuesday (January 14) as Durban Super Giants collide with Joburg Super Kings at Kingsmead, Durban, in the 8th match of the SA20 Season 3.

Both teams are unbeaten in the little showdown this edition.

The Keshav Maharaj-led side posted a mammoth total in their season opener against Pretoria Capitals, thanks to whirlwind knocks from the openers, following which Wiaan Mulder and Kane Williamson went berserk to give the bowlers plenty to deal with. The game was done and dusted when Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Will Jacks were hammering and tonging. Still, miraculous bowling in the final half of the innings saw the Durban-based franchise drag the game away from the Capitals in what was a dramatic turnaround.

The reverse fixture was expected to be a blockbuster, but the rain and the damp outfield had the last laugh at SuperSport Park, with Maharaj and Rilee Rossouw shaking hands with no other option.

On the other hand, the Faf du Plessis-led side also had the rain to deal with in their first game against MI Cape Town but they managed to go past the victory line, courtesy of the DLS method.

Bowling first, the Joburg-based franchise had MI reeling at 75/6 at one stage, thanks to an all-round bowling performance, but they let George Linde and Delano Potgieter take the score to 140 with their respective unbeaten 40-plus knocks.

JSK knew that the rain would come into the picture. They kept ticking the scoreboard despite losing Devon Conway early in the piece. Skipper du Plessis, Leus du Plooy and Jonny Bairstow made useful contributions as they managed to stay 6-run ahead in the DLS method when the rain had the final say in the chase, with the Super Kings being at 82/3 in 11.3 overs.

Maheesh Theekshana could be available for selection as the Sri Lankan spinner has completed his international stint in New Zealand.
