I am an average golfer like you and try out tips from YouTube to help me play better golf. In todays video I try a tip from the Art of Simple Golf, here is the link to the original video
Wrist hinge in the golf swing takeaway is a minefield for golfers of all levels. Where should you set the wrists in the golf swing takeaway? Should you hinge the wrists with extension in the takeaway? Late, early? It’s a golf lesson you need and yes, it’s simple!

I think James Robinson does this on his channel when he swings.😊 Looks like it anyways.
Lazy of me to ask, BUT it would be good if you could find an exercise that sorts my swing path.
Oh my God no. I can see most people executing this imperfectly and achieving nothing but ingraining a casting motion. Rick Shields originally taught an early hinge and screwed up swings around the world. He no longer even swings like that himself and it's the reason his short game is still terrible for someone of his athletic ability. One piece takeaway with only a natural hinge on the full swing is best for most amateurs, and minimizing hinge on the short game is THE key to consistency. Ken Venturi famously illustrated this by actually hitting shots with wrist casts on. Amateurs–excessive (especially early) wrist hinge is the best way to guarantee inconsistency and weakness in your swing.
Thanks Andy for bringing this to our attention. TBH, I couldn’t understand the down bit you were mentioning with the butt of the club. I’ll pop over to GT’s channel.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while now. I like the way you explain things. I’ll try it when it warms up. Keep up the great work.
Andy good work on your vids if it works for you and others that is great. I like the trail palm facing down on the backswing and then after impact the trail hand releases straight toward the target. I do not turn or rotate the club head.
I like this much better than the Faldo method, which felt unnatural. Will try to replicate it at my next range session . Thanks
I’ve noticed that most Pros do the quarter swing without breaking the wrist before the full swing. I am thinking late hinging is the way to go these days 🤷♂️
It’s another drill which I don’t think you can take to the course when. You’re not going to be doing that loose grip motion when you’re static over the ball.
Andy! I like the waist high hinging and unhinging of the wrists with the butt end of the club pointing to the ball! This then allows me to push the arms up to the shoulders to complete my backswing!
Hinge – hold- and go!
Andy so true, we dont want a pro golfer hitting a shot out of picture, the Average golfer showing them how to do it !!
Can u please test Paul Wilson`s tips?
I used to do that and I made good contact. Then I changed to a more triangular arms thing and F’d things up.
I watched this and went back to my old way and wow. This fixed my crappy swing. Thanks AG. I’m new again. ❤❤❤
Very confusing explanations on this occasion. Had to stop watching the video.
Very interesting Andy…….as someone who seems to love new tips you should try Saguto Golf or Porzak Golf, both great channels.
