ONE of the most prestigious courses in Scotland has unveiled plans to offer players the chance to play night golf at their venue.
Golfers will have a unique opportunity to play the famous course as they’ve never seen it before – but not all fans are sold on the idea.

Night golf has gained popularity in recent years particularly in Dubai and other warm-weather destinations such as Spain or the USA.
It’s more than just playing during night time – indeed, the game is played in the pitch black, with the fairways and green often floodlit so that players can see where they are going.
A few clubs in England offer it including Billingbear Park in Wokingham, Country Golf in Hull and Rudding Park in Harrogate.
In Scotland you’l be hard-pressed to find any sort of golf taking place at night – unless it’s the height of summer.
Playing outwith the summer months in Scotland comes with plenty of challenges before you throw in teeing it up in the dark.
Be that the colder temperatures, wet and windy weather, waterlogged courses and obviously fewer hours of daylight.
But Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire has launched its own take on night golf, giving players a shot at playing the sport in the dark on one of the best courses in the country.
Two special nights will take place this week on Thursday January 16 and Friday January 17 called Night Golf, Burger & Beer.
The course, owned by President of the USA Donald Trump, will be transformed with glow sticks on the fairways to illuminate each hole and players will be handed bespoke neon glow-up golf balls for the occasion.
An advert on Trump International’s website read: “Tee off under the stars on the ‘World’s Greatest Links Course’.
Ultra remote Scots golf club named ‘the world’s loneliest course’
“Get a group together and play five holes of the championship links course with a neon glow ball guided by neon glow sticks through the ‘Great Dunes of Scotland’ to illuminated fairways, flags and holes.
“Prepare to swing, savour, and sizzle!
“Thursday, January 16 – Tee times from 4.30pm to 7pm.
“Friday, January 17 – Tee times from 4.30pm to 7pm.”
However, not all fans are convinced it will be a hit.
The price to take part is £75 per person and while this also includes a burger and a pint of beer as part of the package, golfers will only play five holes as opposed to the more traditional 18 or nine.
Considering summer rates for the course can reach a whopping £435, perhaps it’s quite the bargain.
But it’s worth bearing in mind Scotland has just been hit by some of the coldest temperatures on record for years.
As this fan wrote: “Will it be on full greens if its frosty? Might be worth £20 but never £75.”
Another said: “£75 to play five holes in the dark in the dead of winter? Seriously?”
And a third said: “Done it once in Turkey in the relative warmth. Never again. Why on earth would anyone want to play five holes of a great course that you won’t actually see.
