A Durham golf club has raised more than £9,000 for the fight against motor neurone disease (MND) in memory of a member who died of the condition.
Durham City Golf Club held a charity drive throughout the year, inspired by the late David Wood who sadly died of the disease in March last year.
The club members came together to pay tribute to Mr Wood by raising both money and awareness for the MND Association.
Their combined efforts realised £9,600.70 – far exceeding an initial target of £1,000.
The collected funds will be used to support research into finding a cure for the disease, which affects at least 5,000 people in the UK at any given time.
Club captain Brian Crampton said: “Here at Durham City Golf Club we feel very proud that through the generosity of our members, we are able to donate such a large sum of money to help the cause of the MND community.”
Regional fundraiser for the North East, Dominic McDonough, added: “The team at Durham have been absolutely astonishing this year and have worked so hard to raise an incredible amount.
“Every penny will make a huge difference and we couldn’t support people who are living with this terrible disease without this kindness.
“It really does mean so, so much and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone.”
