Great work Hannah, well explained and demonstrated. Wedges are certainly something many club golfers know little about. Everyone wants the latest driver but could not tell you the bounce on their wedges.
Well Hannah, as far as "player profiles" go, we couldn't be more different. I'm a 6'4" American guy, and you're really good at golf. I watch many people in the YouTube golf space, you are THE most informative and trustworthy. You communicate so calmly, so clearly, so well and are able to demonstrate what you're saying to chops like me. I absolutely love that you're on your own now. I'm chuffed, as you might say! You're going to blow up! I'm so glad I love this game, and I'm so glad there are people like you out there making that love hurt just a little less! Thank you! Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Just a dude in Ohio who appreciates your wisdom.
Great explanation & demo of bounce and wedge grinds.
Have to say I've never spent any time comparing them when Ive bought a wedge. It'll be interesting to have the discussion with my local pro shop when I next go to buy one.
I love the look of the blue version but would be concerned about how the finish might be damaged over time.
Cheers
Halve a Barbie, 100% a golfer 🙂
I enjoyed this, I have played a few different grinds. For me, it's just getting use to the club. I do like 2 different grinds one for tight lies and one digging. I am a steep wedge player, but i use a same length irons(8-g cobra tec) with my wedges being about a quarter inch every wedge down from the gap, technically I have 2 gap wedges. I have one with 48°with the irons and one I consider the start to my wedges, it works for me. My 52° is a cobra musle back 2°up lie, 55°/ more versatile grind (toe grind, front edge grind, slight grind back edge)with 11bounce and 58° classic grind (rounded) with 10 bounce. Cheers and again loved the explanation!
For years, as a low handicapper, I made the mistake of thinking I didn’t want much bounce. Then my wedge game and chipping was transformed by 12 degrees of bounce. So much harder to duff a chip. Wish I’d done it 20 years earlier!
Excellent content. Low bounce wedge in compact sand is a great idea. I am not sure at about the blue wedge. It does look nice but not sure if I would like it. I hope you are enjoying all the Spain has to offer particularly their cuisine! Cheers!!
Fantastic review, as always, HH. You're one of my top-3 YT golf creators.
I'm glad they dropped the boron in the wedges and went back to straight 1025E steel and the copper underlay. These are going to feel amazing. I'm going to go T3 52° and T1 58° in C in 8°. Lots of suspect, packed bunkers at my local course – or bunkers where there's an inch of sand and then basically concrete underneath – and a low bounce wedge is often needed.
Fortunately I don't really need to worry too much about bounce and grind, because mostly I play a 52° around the greens, and most manufacturers only offer it in one bounce and one grind. 10° S. Which is really what I need anyway, so that works. I don't think the average golfer needs or benefits from all these options, but it's nice to have them.
Nothing quite like new grooves.
I think you have underlined the difficulty of using a lob wedge. Very inconsistent strike location with speed. Not a good general club to use, it's a novelty club IMO
Your are clearly a skilled golfer at the highest level. Given that your skills are so far beyond many golfers how can we apply your advice?
This content might be understandable for high level professionals 99% of golfers do not have the skills to work with this information. Basic advice for YouTube content creators – keep the content at the level of your target audience.
That's a nice outfit ya got there . Great video too!
Thanks Hannah.
great review and insight
i wish i had somewhere near me where i could go and test wedges properly like that and always laugh when i get info about grinds etc and by end of it it seems i need like 10 wedges – 1 for tight lie, soft turf, sand types, flop shot etc
I’ve bought some T22s of eBay and decided to get a high/low bounce for each to see if I can see the difference 54 & 58 and I think 7/12 and 8/12. Quite looking forward to testing them when it stops snowing!
Hi Hannah another great video again xx
You look better in a pink skirt than I would, Dr Gus Greenfield approved! Thanks for another great lesson.
Would love to see Part 2 of this with you showing us a range of grass types/conditions and how to evaluate appropriate grind/bounce for these.
That looks too warm to be Yorkshire in January!
Would like to see a video on shaft flex is it true that if youve got a fast or slow speed, you should have a certain flex , kick point or weight, etc, thanks Hannha
I enjoyed the video. I bought Titleist wedges last year, after playing Cleveland for years.
Many people don't have any business with a 60° wedge to begin with.
Thanks, good info for me.
Hanna, you know what would be really helpful, a ball comparison. There are so many choices right now, Pro V1, TP5, Chrome soft etc. (that's just the top tier, there are SO many options!) Comparing what each manufacturer's balls do in similar conditions can help determine what most of us amateurs will be buying come spring. Let's face it, club comparisons are fun and while we'd all love to buy new clubs each year, most of us keep a set of golf clubs for multiple seasons. Balls, gloves, maybe shoes, those are things that get replaced often.
Thanks for the consistently entertaining and informative content. Keep it up.
Hannah…you know what you should do..? Just keep on doing what you're doing!!
Great video…those new Mizuno wedge look truly great. I think the blue hue is a bit draker than in previous years. More navy blue versus azure blue.
I have a very steep full swing so I play ZX7 but I like wedges with less bounce because I play the face open with a flat swing.
I like the looks of the blue, but I was also disappointed in the grooves being grey, when I bought my 56 degree t24, last fall. Beautiful wedges. But that has me scared to use it out of sand. Don’t want to wear off the coating.
