The Hokies had to rally late to get their first ACC win of the season, defeating the Hurricanes, 86-85. Miami led by as many as seven in the second half, and was up 4 with under a minute to go. It was an and-1 layup by Mylyjael Poteat with 2.7 seconds left off of a pick-and-roll that won the game for Virginia Tech. Poteat scored a career-high 25 points on 10-16 shooting for the Hokies. Tobi Lawal scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out five assists. For Miami, Matthew Cleveland scored 21 points to go with three assists, two rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
