This detailed film breakdown explores why NBA teams are shooting so many 3-pointers (again). What caused the increase in 3-point shots in the NBA? How have teams continued to attack on offense with Xs and Os designed to exploit the 3-point shot? And how have individual players adapted to meet those demands so they can shoot more 3s? Also, is 3 really greater than 2?

  1. Because its the most valuable shot and the fact everyone can hit 3 today defence collapses after one p&r….bo need to breaking down to atoms and quantum physics-even handcheck won't do nothing. And to search for "solutions" to get basketball of late 90s and even till 2004/5 back. Some suggesting 3pt line to be further some handchecking, it will MAYBE make 5% less 3pts but not for long, lush 3 line a meter would work for few years, barely…its just consecuence of introducing 3pts line and it evolved to that point because every kid is shooting 3pts.

  2. I always thought that basketball offense has advance so much that defense has a hard time adapting to it. That's why we tend to see poorer defense in today's era. I think one way to alleviate this is to to remove the 3 seconds defensive violation and allow hand checking again. Even then, I'm not sure if that would help so much with the 3 point revolution.

  3. I used to play pick up ball when I was a student, and the Trae Young floater 3 always felt comfortable for me. And I mean before he was even in the league. We’re the same age. I think it stems from me being a kid who loved to shoot from half court in the early 2000s, so keeping that same momentum at a closer range always felt fluid. While I can understand it looks like a bad shot to non players, I wouldn’t be surprised if later in the future more evidence or research is done to show comfort ability being a high correlator to shot success. But I’m also someone who never played organized ball so maybe I’m wrong.

  4. People might not want it back, but i think the three point line should be increased. Make it harder

  5. I have not watched a single game in three years because of this garbage analytics strategy. The beauty of the game is gone. The poker game has been turned into a slot machine.

  6. 🧢 Offenses are not more innovative. Screens, skip passes, pick and rolls have been around forever.

The change has been the elimination of defense.

All of these clips prove that defensive principles have been removed from basketball. Its embarrassing.

As stated in the video, allowing offensive players to break all restrictions on the offensive end of the court makes it even harder for defenders to play defense.

BTW attempting shots is not a skill 🤦🏾‍♂️

  7. Heres my issue. Overall 3pt % has stayed around 35% the last 20 years. But eFG% has improved, which I think is used to stay with the experiment. Its really 2pt efficiency that's driving improved efficiency. So, they shoot twice as many 3s without improvement in 3-Point shooting efficiency equals more missed shots! A team like Warriors is built to shoot 3s with 5 roster members shooting over 40% and shooting 60% of their attempts! Enjoyabe to watch. Most teams shooting 40+ 3's are not!!

  8. how can people see this level of evolution and still call the nba boring just because they dont take a bunch of highly contested layups and midranges?

  9. Jaylen Brown BREAKDOWN you're next video Thinking Basketball 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

  10. Boston 50+ THREES this season 😂😅😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅

  11. There are a nunber of problems on why NBA ratings are down, but the 3 point is not and will never be one of them.

  12. It's UNWATCHABLE. The games are consisting off guys running back and forth chucking 3's. A MIN game recently had 100 3 ATTTEMPTS. 100!!! No wonder ratings are plummeting! Not to mention that the NBA is now playing a brand of basketball that is so far removed from the real game of basketball that EU players come to the NBA and literally LAUGH. There's no defence anymore, travels are practically legal, FFS there are almost no positions either! HOW IS THIS BASKETBALL??? This isn't the game progressing, its REGRESSING!

  13. You've built your theory on teams preferring layups, but present no evidence to support that. There are highlights in your own montage of players passing out of layups that are open.

  14. I wanna lamelo with his crazy one leggers and eractic play on a D'Antoni team. He'll be absolutely godly

  15. I have seen street ballers do 3-point layups. They take off from behind the 3-pt line to flip a rather long and high layup. Of course the paint has to be clear of defenders. It will be interesting to see a pro does it on a game. That will be a new revolution of the 3.

  16. You failed to mention Steph Curry's cross-over three as well as Jokic's Larry Bird form three. A hook shot from three point line is the next evolution. Lebron's been playing with it in scrimmages.

  17. There is no denying that the 3 ball is part of the natural evolution of basketball offense and is here to stay, but it's not without some problems. Shot variance can have a chilling effect on powerful offenses if their shot is off that game.

Case in point, the recent OKC, Boston game. Boston shot 9-46 from free and scored only 27 points in the second half. Often 5 shooters spread around the arc is less dependable than an offense run by SGA or Jokic. Sometimes, it can be uninspiring as a fan to watch, but I don't have an anti 3 ball mentality. It's just imperfect and can be problematic in ways this video fails to bring up.

Nobody is stopping the three point revolution and this make sense. The math on it works in favor of it, but some counter point would make for a more balanced analysis of the topic. Excellent video, that's just my own peon thought on the matter.

I mean 9-46 from 3 and 27 in the second half is about as abysmal and inefficient as it gets. There are wide swings in shot variance, so it can be less reliable at times. That's a small, but not inconsequential fact.

  18. ok…three min in and the Bulls post up example….. yeah, that would be called poor off ball movement by the offense, not an example of a poorly designed game being clogged. What happened is they neutered defenders and now any guard in the league can regularly get into the paint against one defender, causing mismatches. Give the D back some of their tools, and all of this changes.

  19. What do you think of ending the 3 second rule? I've heard some say that this would make the 3 pointers spreading the floor not as viable, more like a European style.

  20. They should get rid of the 3pt line. I’m serious. This game plan will still work, as it spaces the floor, and guys can still shoot from out there, but it will make the game way less over-centralized on the 3

  21. If this keep continues on and on…in 5-15 years we could actually see some anime level move.

Heck, this 'no dip 3s' is just lesser version of Midorima mid air catch 3pt shoot that he uses against Akashi in Winter Cup.
