Struggling with putting consistency?

Here’s a simple yet powerful tip to improve your setup and alignment.

When setting up for a putt, your eye position is critical for maintaining a consistent path and stroke.

A small adjustment can make a huge difference.

I like to position my eyes slightly inside the ball, rather than directly over it.

Why?
When my eyes are directly over the ball, my putting path tends to get too far out to in, leading to inconsistent rolls.

By aligning my eyes slightly inside the ball, I create a more natural and straight stroke path.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Adjust the Club Face Line:
Place the club face line slightly inside the alignment line of the ball.
This subtle shift changes your perspective and encourages better alignment.

2. Visualize Your Line:
From your first-person view, the line on the ball should appear directly under the club face.
Even though it’s slightly inside from a down-the-line perspective, it creates visual consistency.

3. Maintain Consistency:
Set up the same way every time.
Seeing the same alignment ensures your stroke remains repeatable, which is key to sinking more putts.

This adjustment may seem small, but the benefits are enormous.

Not only does it help with alignment, but it also prevents overcorrection during the stroke.

Professional golfers often emphasize the importance of routine and consistency.

This tip aligns with that philosophy.

Now, let’s break it down further with an analogy.

Think of your putting stroke like a train on tracks.
If your eyes are over the ball, the “tracks” might shift, causing the train to derail.
But with your eyes slightly inside, the tracks stay straight, ensuring the train reaches its destination—right in the cup!

Want to take it a step further?

Here are two drills to perfect this adjustment:

1. Mirror Alignment Drill:
Place a small mirror on the ground to check your eye position relative to the ball.
Adjust until you see the alignment line inside the ball line.

2. String Line Drill:
Stretch a string over your intended putting line.
Use it as a reference to align your club face and ensure your eyes are in the correct position.

These drills not only reinforce proper setup but also improve your confidence on the greens.

Remember, putting is as much about confidence as it is about technique.

The more consistent your setup, the more confident you’ll feel standing over those crucial putts.

So next time you’re on the green, take a moment to check your eye position.

It could be the difference between a missed opportunity and a birdie.
