Whipping the golf club through the ball maximizes club head speed and power.

In this golf lesson, PGA Pro Kerrod Gray and Matt Nicolle (@matt_nicolle_golf) demonstrate the correct downswing sequence to create a whipping motion using the Slingshot training aid.

  1. So that we understand – -Are you saying that hand deceleration is caused by the arms becoming "unpinned" or "flinging off" the chest/torso? (You explain at 2:53) So we should NOT purposely slow down the hands, correct? We should keep them moving through impact as fast as we can, but the proper swing sequence and body motion will cause the deceleration automatically and it's not something we should try to feel or cause with our hands, is that correct?

  2. Get an old beach towel. Roll it tight, lengthways and wrap it with gaffer tape spaced every 10 inches or so. This will give you the exact whip feeling you are seeking when you use it like a golf club…Oh, and for a fraction of the price.
