COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Blue Jackets Head Coach Dean Evason, who has been in town for just over five months, shared some personal insights in a recent interview with ABC 6.

When asked whether he would prefer to drive the Zamboni or fire the Canon, Evason said, “Oh, I’d fire the Canon for sure. It seems like, well, it scares the hell out of me every time it goes off, which is fantastic.”

Evason also revealed his passion for golf.

“Well, I love golf. I’m extremely passionate. It’s kind of my addiction. I could play 36 holes a day,” he said.

He recounted a humorous story about the McConnell family, owners of the Double Eagle golf course.

“I tell the story that the McConnell family owns the golf course at Double Eagle. And I didn’t realize that the general manager and the coach were provided a membership at the Double Eagle. So I told Don Waddell that if he would have told me that at the start, he would have got me for a lot cheaper,” Evason said.

As for New Year’s resolutions, Evason is not one to make them. “No, no. I don’t do any resolution stuff. If I want to do something, I get it done,” he said.

Evason concluded with a hope for the Canon’s frequent firing, saying, “I hope it scares me each and every night several times.”
