Viktor Hovland has sustained a broken foot bone due to an unlucky encounter with a bedframe, potentially derailing his participation in The Sentry tournament in Hawaii next week.
Although listed for the PGA Tour season’s first event, Hovland may be forced to withdraw because of this peculiar injury, which he revealed on Instagram last Friday by sharing an X-ray image displaying a broken pinky toe with his followers, captioning it: “Bed frame 1 – 0 me.”
It remains uncertain if he’ll have to miss The Sentry, an absence that would undoubtedly be upsetting for his ambition to make a strong start in 2025. The 27 year old golfer had a busy 2024 season, playing in 16 PGA Tour events and missing the cut merely three times, but it wasn’t his best year as his top performance was landing a T2 at the FedEx St Jude Championship.
Hovland’s bizarre injury follows Scottie Scheffler’s withdrawal from The Sentry due to an accident on Christmas Day. He suffered a puncture wound after cutting the palm of his right hand on broken glass, which necessitated surgery.
Scheffler has been informed that he should recover in three to four weeks, setting him up for a return at the American Express tournament in mid-January.
Guan shared: “During my nights in hospital, I almost drowned in thoughts about the injury and my future in the sport. Not only was I utterly distraught by the news I had received, but the whole situation made me very depressed and somewhat angry.
“As you can imagine, this whole situation not only came at a tremendous cost but has also significantly affected me and my family emotionally and mentally. All my years of hard work and training, plus my family’s sacrifice, had just been thrown out the window.
