In today’s video, I’m taking you back to the exact spot where I learned to master compression over 20 years ago. This powerful drill on a hillside helped me unlock the forward shaft lean, impact position, and solid contact that great players achieve with ease. I’ll break down the importance of maximum trigger delay, trapping the ball against the ground, and how learning this fundamental changed my ball flight and consistency.

Using this hillside drill, you’ll feel the club compress the ball, adding velocity and control that sweeping through impact just can’t match. If you’ve been struggling with weak or inconsistent shots, practicing on a slope like this could be the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for.

Hi I’m Zach, thank you for visiting my channel. My goal here is to help you play the best golf of your life while having as much fun as possible!

I’m a PGA-certified golf instructor and have been coaching since 1997. I’ve been named a Golf Digest “Best Young Teacher,” a GolfTips Magazine “Top 25 Golf Instructor,” and Southern California PGA’s Teacher of the Year. I’ve worked with golfers of all ages and levels, from 4-year-old beginners on up through touring professionals. My students have included nationally-ranked juniors, touring pros, celebrities, and CEOs, but wherever you’re at on your golfing journey, my goal is always the same… to help YOU play your best golf!

I started playing competitive golf at a young age, ultimately reaching #3 in the California junior golf rankings – just behind another promising young golfer named Tiger Woods. I also played collegiate golf at the University of Southern California and professional golf on the Omega Asian Tour.

I work with students in-person at my studio in Valencia, CA, and teach golfers all around the world through my YouTube channel and on my website: ballstrikingblueprint.com. Thanks for stopping by and drop me a comment if you have any questions or would like to get in touch!

  1. I really enjoy these videos. Compression is my next goal.

Pretty sure I'll buy the masterclass

  2. Any ways to translate that drill to indoor practice. Outdoor practice pretty much done here in Wisconsin. Impact bag perhaps?

  3. Hi Zach, I really like your videos and especially how the lesson starts within seconds of the video starting. That keeps bringing me back. Thank you!

  4. I never compressed the ball in my life but was bound and determined to finally teach myself how to do it. I took a chance and bought the PRECISION IMPACT golf training aid because it seemed to make sense to me, and I’m sure glad I did. Within a single session I was able to compress the ball, and after one full season I am pretty decent at it. I still have room for improvement as far as being more consistent because every now and then my old swing of the last 20 years comes creeping back. Overall a great way to learn compressing the ball👍⛳️

  5. How does TW compress his irons without touching a blade of grass? And with a negative angle of attack. Is it just delofting? Along with hitting the dead center of ball with dead center of sweet spot?

Vijay won 9 times in 2004 with zero shaft lean. I wouldn’t say he swept. But unsure. It’s compressed without handle drag.

    Because of the throw?

  6. What you are doing is spinning the ball, aka compression. The ball has dimples and must be spinning to get distance. That is why pros take divots and the bigger the divot, the more spin you get. If you just thing in terms of how can I spin the ball with the clubhead, it will come natural then.

  7. Zach, does that compression put the back spin on the ball I see the pros have? The compression just gives you more distance?

  8. Trapping the ball is hard on your wrist and hands. I am 67 with arthritis in both hands. It’s not worth the pain

  9. What a waste of time, don't promise to show the 10 shot sequence for free and then bullshit us into listing to you're fucked up infomercial. Couldn't be more disappointed
