A SCOTTISH golf club that was embroiled in a bitter legal feud with its own members has launched a fundraising campaign to try and stay afloat.

Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club in Ayrshire is looking for £70,000 in order to help mitigate financial pressures that are putting its future at risk.

Earlier this month, as exclusively revealed by The Scottish Sun, Prestwick St Cuthbert issued an email to its membership that outlined the perilous situation they found themselves in.

The club had been involved in a legal battle with some of its own members dating back to February 2024, when it tried to impose annual fees on certain categories of the membership who were previously exempt.

Around 60 life members who had paid lump sums to secure their status were affected by this and the club was subsequently challenged in the Court of Session on the issue.

The club say the dispute has now been resolved and that they are in the process of refunding those members who had requested one.

However, the monetary situation remains severe and a new-look committee has decided to set up a public crowdfunder to try and raise urgent cash.

Prestwick St Cuthbert gained a fine reputation as one of Scotland’s best parkland courses and it is keen to re-establish its once-thriving social scene.

Some current and former members have accused previous regimes in charge of club affairs of mismanagement.

The club has so far raised just under £6,000 of a £70,000 target using GoFundMe.

On the campaign page, the club say the money will be used to improve course maintenance, modernise the clubhouse and expand their junior programme.

It reads: “Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club has been a cherished part of our community for generations. Known for its friendly atmosphere, stunning course and welcoming membership, the club has brought people together through a shared passion for golf and camaraderie.
