To enable them to hit the ball with a descending blow, most amateur golfers improve their striking of the ball with fairway woods and hybrids by moving the ball further back in their stance – ie nearer to the centre – and from years and years of experience they find that this is the best solution to achieving a good ball flight, as it is much easier than trying to control the bottom of the swing further forward under the lead shoulder whilst at the same time NOT trying to lift the ball into the air.

This advice is just what I would have asked for!! I struggle so much with my hybrids/FWs that I rarely use them unless it is an slightly uphill lie – I almost invariably top or thin my shots along the ground when the ball is level or slightly downhill, (or above or below the feet). Probably my inexperience means I don't read the lie well enough, and I also think a big point is to have a more relaxed swing rather than trying to hit it as far as possible. I shall have to rewatch this video in the new year, once I can practice again, as the clubs have been put away now we are close to the Christmas season.

At this time of the year in UK winter rules mean you can move the ball if there is a better lie within 6 inches no nearer the pin.
