Team USA Select team member Jamal Mashburn tells a cold story about the time that he played against Larry Bird and the rest of the Dream Team in scrimmages prior to the Barcelona Olympics. He, Chris Webber, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway squared off against the Dream Team and as legend has it, they managed to beat them in the first scrimmage they played in however the scoreboard was turned off by the time the media walked into the gym. Mashburn’s teammate Rodney Rogers gave Larry Bird a little bit of lip service about his poor performance and like MJ, Larry took that personally. Mashburn’s account of what happened the next scrimmage sounds like vintage Larry Bird as he showed up to play, walked the walk and talked the talk afterwards. Chills! Who remembers how iconic the Dream Team was?
