💯 no reason to have multiple portal periods. Do spring portal you have all of March-April to make your transfer moves. Mini-camps in the summer and then you have preseason ball.
The one reason to maybe keep spring ball the you at least give kids a view of what the team is looking like and what their role might be…. Kids that were looking like they’re stuck as a role player might move into a starting role… and this kid is now QB so this is better now… etc….

Easy solution is to get ceiling to floor curtains, like stage curtains. Patch a couple holes in the walls instead of having to repaint and all that.
