Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

  1. Depends on what "traditional" refers to, back in the nineties/early 2000's almost all 7 irons had 36 degrees of loft, 8 irons were 40 and so forth. Go back further and and we'd find even more loft per iron. Having played numerous sets back in the 90's those lofts matched up well, also considering the limited shaft options compared to today. I could never see bending my '97 taylormade burner tour
7 iron down much lower than 36° as the trajectory was already "penetrating ", helped by stiff Precision rifle shaft. The 5 iron in that set had nearly 29 degrees of loft and could be a handful of trouble on an off day, lol! Thirty eight inches of "flush it or else!"
New irons with strong lofts are a different design altogether, with the so called traditional lofts you'd be hitting that 7 iron a mile up in the air. These hollow head low center of gravity and even more tech irons actually require less loft. Fun video, Rick!

  2. aren't' the King Tec x irons about the same loft? I play them and I'm pretty sure that my 7 iron is about 27 degs. Strong, I agree, but not anything that cobra haven't done before.

  3. Like every Bryson club. Why does it matter if it works. Not my preference at all, but if it works for slow swinger high handicappers that’s great.

  4. Titleist t400 7 iron are 26, degrees… People are too worried about loft and should be worried about the spin numbers.. That's literally all thst matters……

  5. I think we need a 16 degree 7 iron! My old 2 iron was that, problem with these lofts is the wedge gapping, I already use an pw, aw, 50, 54, 58 combo!

  6. Coming from a certified fitter.. these feel amazing and get a ton of distance. But they don’t get a ton of spin.. so it’s hard to keep them on the greens

  7. The lofts are changing way to fast. At this rate we'll all have a 7,8,9 and 6 wedges in the bag for complete sets. The way the backs look have nothing to do with the performance and you only see them when the clubs are in your bag. Just find something comfortable for you and go out and play.

  8. It's been silly for along time. I actually think it's 100% a con by manufacturers selling clubs by claiming more distance when, in reality, they're just making the number on the bottom bigger. They could get away with it a little, but at this point, a full third of a person's bag will be wedges! We need a correction to get club numbers back in line with some expected distances.

  9. I think irons should go the way of wedges. Forget stamping the '7' or whatever. Just put the loft on the bottom.

  10. My 7 is at 28.5. And 8 32.5. So I’m not really concerned with loft as much as gaping with 6 clubs in the bag going shorter. Back in the day the 6 was my confidence club. Now has been moved to 7 is all.

  11. In starting to think Rick shouldn’t review clubs especially when he’s potentially misleading a large audience

  12. So basically saying our irons are "longer" is because they changed the loft. So it is really all just bull Sh*t.The 7 iron is now a 5 iron of years before. I will just stay with my 10 yo PXG's.

  13. Some of your videos, I’m wondering who the reviews are for. You’re reviewing the clubs for the general golfer not the tour pro. If testing the general golfers clubs are off putting then why keep doing it? I can swing super fast and I can carry that 160. So if you want traditional lofts then stop buying these and dogging them. The last few years have been definitely been getting worse the more recent we get, manufacturers are trying to make clubs for general golfers not just pros and scratch. If you don’t like them, then stop reviewing them and dogging them. Not a fair review in my opinion. You already made a judgement and you’re biased when it comes to loft. Might want to work on being more open minded. I’ve also noticed, you’re not swinging as consistently as you use too. You and I need to watch that Bryson video about making 10 shots and if we can’t restart, until we can.

  14. My Wilson Staff D200 7 iron is 31°. The 6 iron is 27°. So, they made a 6 iron and stamped a 7 on it. Simple, huh? Great advance in technology! 😂. Lol

I don't really believe that Tiger ever had a 36° 7 iron. I even doubt that a 7 was ever 34°. My D200s are at least 10 years old.

I just looked up a Titelist T400 7 iron, and it is 26°. So, 27° is no big deal, huh?

  15. Everyone talking about lofts, but nobody talking about how Rick converted $999 to…. *drum roll please*… $783.57 🤦🏻‍♂️

  16. Lots of hate in the comments, sorry guys but loft angle absolutely matters, as do other factors like material, weight, etc. Just for grins, here is a list of Cobra's 7-iron loft angles for the past 30 years. I think it makes sense for the PGA to standardize loft angles, the changes are getting a bit silly. For reference, 2024 PGA tour average carry for a 7-iron is 145-165 yards.

    Year Model 7-Iron Loft
    1994 King Cobra Oversize 37°
1996 King Cobra II Oversize 37°
    1999 Gravity Back 36°
    2000 CXI Men's 36°
2002 King Cobra SS Oversize 36°
    2004 King Cobra 3400 I/XH 34°
    2006 King Cobra FP 33°
    2008 King Cobra S9 32°
    2011 S3 Irons 30°
    2013 AMP Cell Irons 30°
    2015 Fly-Z Irons 30°
    2017 King F7 Irons 30.5°
    2018 King F8 Irons 29.5°
    2019 King F9 Speedback Irons 29.5°
    2020 King SpeedZone Irons 27.5°
    2021 RADSPEED Irons 26.5°
    2022 LTDx Irons 26.5°
    2023 Aerojet Irons 26.5°

  17. Funny thing in the video that you were hitting them here they weren’t rolling out and having problems stopping. They were performing absolutely awesome, you would likely benefit from having the regular adapt set in your own bag. Can’t be anything wrong with the club if it’s so easy as you say to hit, and does the job without any effort let’s make this game easier rather than trying to be a hero hitting hard to hit clubs and getting miracle shots I mean disappointed when they don’t work out. Golf is hard enough as it is.
