In the ninth Paddy’s Golf Tips video in the series on helping every golfer achieve a single-figure handicap, I now move on to putting, where the most shots can be saved and is the easiest route to handicap reductions. In this lesson, I provide a few simple practice routines to help avoid excess body movement and avoiding a long follow through, whilst I discuss the importance of pace in putting and reading the greens, as well as not keeping the head still during the stroke.

  1. Waiting for this one, was 0.7 then got the yips and shot up to 5 over a 7 year period, still time to get to scratch especially with this new handicap system 👍

  2. Took extensive notes. Cant wait to get out there. Thanks. PS the guy in the pale blue sweater putting in the background is a hot putter.

  3. Paddy really cares, it’s very obvious. Thank you for caring, cause your tips are the most honest ,and on point for the average Joe golfer.

  4. First I want to say I’m a big fan,and appreciate greatly what you do here,I’ve not missed an episode 😎
So I would like to ask if you could give advice, swing, putting, chipping or otherwise, for single digit HCers that are trying to get to scratch.

  5. Thank you for this series Paddy.
I have lowered my handicap from 13.5 to 11.0 (in 12 rounds) through two things – these videos and practicing the concepts as often as possible in between rounds.
    Much appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Single digits and sub 80 are the goals and are well and truly within range

  6. Interesting that tap. A modest tap makes sense, but surely I wouldn't think Paddy wants us all to do the Brandt Snedeker thing?

  7. 100% agree on the importance of pace. Avoids 3-putts. But inside 2 feet from any distance, also from 60 feet? Phew. Still, another Harrington gem. Like!

  8. Thanks Paddy. Here's a suggestion for viewers…To take a shorter backswing and follow through, and to learn speed…a very effective drill is to putt while looking at the hole instead of looking at the ball. Spieth does this in practice and sometimes in competition. For me, it really helps me break out of putting "slumps" when I'm lost and not putting well. It forces you to engage your athleticism. You'll take shorter backswings and follow throughs. You will likely hit the putts much more solid than usual, you will not decelerate or waiver, and you'll also hit more putts past the hole, at least in the beginning. But then you have to (will) recalibrate and learn speed.

  9. I step off my putts for distance. If pulling the putter back 12" results in a 8 pace putt (practice green) and my putt on the first hole is 6 paces I simply pull the putter back 9". It works if you have dead hands and consistent smooth accel thru the ball. Smooth.
It's not perfect but it removes all doubt and thinking, which is nice.

  10. Probably the best golf advise on the internet!! the intention… the content is to the point 👍 keep bringing this Padraig !! Awesome

  11. Bruno is the problem. Nothing will be resolved with the rhetoric she is spewing!

  12. Another excellent video. One thing I ALWAYS do if my putt runs past the hole is to watch it very closely to see how it breaks to get my line on the way back.
