Zak Keefer of The Athletic sits down with Hoge & Jahns as the search for the Chicago Bears head coach continues. Keefer looks back on the Eberflus era from an Indy perspective, and dives into his thoughts on who the right guy would be for this organization. There’s one name at the top of the list who stands out… Plus, Hoge & Johns look ahead with the “Big Three” questions and their Over/Under picks.

  1. You guys brought in a guest and spent a whole podcast on the Bears picking a new HC? Why bother? Just look for the dumbest worst option and there you go. Flores is suing the league and had issues with a rookie QB. Treating him like crap. There ya go all done. Next problem?

  2. If Thomas brown doesn’t get a HC gig and is offered the OC job with the bears I think he takes it. It isn’t a demotion and he’s playing calling for a very talented qb. He’ll be on the short list for HCs very quick

  3. It’s gotta be Ben Johnson. Especially with how many Ex head coach DC candidates are out there. You need a guy who’s gonna keep the offense running for Calebs whole career. Vrabel is safe with a high floor but a limited ceiling. Outside of Tomlin I can’t think of a true CEO (doesn’t call plays) whose had real success in the modern NFL

  4. Can we stop talking about a guy who couldn’t win when he didn’t have literally the greatest quarterback of all time?

  5. Their about to make another mistake by keeping a GM who clearly doesn't know how to build a team the proper way. And cannot draft o'line or defensive alignment to save his life

  6. Just wondering why you guys would even consider Thomas Brown after last weeks first half. Total offensive yards were what, three yards?

  7. What do we think Bill would do for our organization in a single meeting? Such a weird thing to keep harping about. I guess we're just already in the off-season emotionally

  8. Truly don’t understand why Brown is being treated as an OC who we can’t let leave. Is anybody else watching the games?

  9. Just get Vrabel and overpay a tonne for a reputable OC. Like double whatever is offered by their current gig.

    Seems simple.

  10. Vrabel seems to be the more logical choice by the day. The only question would be who he would bring in as the OC. Vrabel would understand from the player perspective the importance of rivalry games. Johnson nice guy, can he improve the offense with this line? Can he lead a team? Has more questions than Vrabel

  11. You gotta be out of your mind if you rather have Flores instead of Glenn. Detroit fans are currently laughing at how stupid you sound.

  12. This podcast is really in trouble. I cannot believe the garbage you putting out on this medium. Remember when you used to talk about what is really happening instead of all this theoretical mumbo jumbo. The joy in Jahn's voice when he said, "the first time the Bears have ever fired a coach in mid-season." tells the whole story of what you want for the Bears. Their failure is your click bait! Great. You guys hate the Bears. Got it…

  13. Ben Johnson has a full weapons closet and an online and also a reliable defense and depth: how can you even begin to imagine how he would be in Chicago when the line can't even block for any developing plays, or a run game , and by the way we don't have hard hitting backs anymore for some reason. So we can't RPO and we have a rookie QB with spotty accuracy downfield and the defensive line has no depth. Hell we are out of kick returners. All he has to do is offense with the best personnel and nothing else. It's not quantifiable at all. It's hell on earth

  14. My vote is Ben while Poles needs to build the trenches on both sides (but more importantly the O Line) via top free agents & high draft picks. Best offense the last three seasons and he has the formula to beat the Packers.

  15. Hoge is such a tool, thinks T. Brown might still be good as the Off. coordinator under a new coach. Hoges one of the biggest pushers of D.E.I. to date, what a cuck!

  16. Johnson is not going to work for Ryan Poles. Yall need to quit your stupidity. We need to fire Ryan Poles and hire Brian Flores. He will kick ass in Chicago

  17. How bad is this o line that Ryan poles said “is the deepest we’ve ever had”. Then Caleb (who does hold the ball too often and doesn’t do throw aways) gets sacked enough to break the record. Man was poles off on that one!

  18. Bears final 4 are the Bengals OC Brian Callahan who doesn't call plays but is the son of Bill Callahan. Very Matt Nagy so if you're gonna gamble. 😅 Vrabel, Flores, and Ben Johnson. I hope they only interviewed the Bengals OC to call plays as OC here. Not to be Head Coach. But who knows with this ownership. These are the Final 4 Bears coaching candidates. Idk if they will report it or not. But it's 1 of these 4. Obviously Bears will have to wait to do some interviews. Imo Vrabel comes in 1st and Ownership doesn't like him, how he talks. Which then pisses his close friend Flores off where Poles has to beg him to even interview. Ben Johnson wants 14mil per over 7years and imo could be the Flus of OCs. Idk, I like his scheme. I doubt ownership spends that much so Flores and Bill Callahan are pry our final 2 with the Bears trying to pair them. Make Flores Head Coach and Callahan Ast HC, OC calling his own offense, his dad is pry added to the staff a wealth of Knowledge. I'm gonna note I put this here early December 😅

  19. You can cross the Greatest Coach of All Time who was a Perfect fit off the list. He like Harbaugh wanted to come and We Wouldn't Even Talk to Him!!!!! 😔😳🤬 A 💩 Acc 🏀 college outbid you.

  20. Get Vrabel. This team is an undisciplined mess. Ben Johnson seems like a great OC, but there aren't strong signs he's a great leader. He can have all the offensive acumen in the world, but he'll still fail if he can't build and lead a true team. Vrabel's OC choice will matter a lot, but there's no question he can build a culture and lead a football team.

  21. Let’s see, Bill Belicheck would rather sign with UNC than the Bears….. that’s all everyone needs to know….. come to Chicago and get destroyed as a coach. McCaskeys are you happy with your results as owners…40 years of futility come January 2026

  22. Statistically speaking, since 2000, it makes next to no difference if you get a HC with prior HC experience, or a HC with no prior experience. 39.2% of first time HC’s get 1 playoff win. 35.2% of HC’s with prior HC experience get 1 playoff win.

    Coaches to win 2 playoff games: First time – 28.4%, Previous HC’s – 22.2%

    Coaches to win 3 playoff games: First time – 18.6%, Previous HC’s – 18.5%

For the ability to sustain success in the long term, it statistically makes no difference if they are a first time HC or if they had previous HC experience.
