The divot rule, yes it is part of the game but its cruelty lies in that it might cost a player his or her only chance of winning an event, even a major if professional. I would love to see preferred lies trialled for a season to see whether giving everyone a fair go at a shot after a good drive really makes much difference to scores. It would feel a lot more sporting to me anyway.
