Breaking 100, Use Your 3 Wood! – John Hughes Golf

This video is a conversation about a couple simple strategies you can use to consistently break 100. With more information about how you can break 100 more often by using your 3 wood more often, contained within the accompanying blog post from April of 2024 – Breaking 100 (https://www.johnhughesgolf.com/breaking-100-embrace-your-3-wood/).

Did you know a 3 wood is more than 5 times more forgiving than a driver? And keeps the ball in play more often? So why are you not using your 3 wood more often? After all, you’re always hunting for the balls you hit with your driver. And spending all the allotted time allowed by the rules of golf to look for your errant shots.

The yardage you sacrifice with a 3 wood as compared to your driver is minuscule. Would you rather be 135 yards away from the green behind a tree you can’t hit over? or 140 yards from the green in the middle of the fairway? I’ll take the fairway any day!

Hopefully the video and the accompanying blog post will talk some sense into you if you plan to break 100 any time soon. And if you need further assistance doing so, give me a call and schedule golf coaching with John Hughes Golf!

  1. Sound advice John. I got teamed up with a father and son one day. They hit their expensive drivers on all but par 3's and spent much time hitting provisional balls and looking for ones they ultimately lost. It was pretty annoying and time consuming. I'm fortunate to hit my driver really well, but these guys should've stuck with their 5 woods!
