Which rules of golf apply when you are in the bunker?
In this video, I cover all the golf rules you need to know before hitting out of a bunker with tips for beginners or lifelong golfers. I cover loads of key areas such as if you can touch the sand, when you can ground the club, movable obstructions and when you can take free and penalty drops from the sand.

Im sure you can actually practise in another bunker as long as its not the one you are in is this right ?
I will dropping out of bunkers from now on! 😂 love learning new tips, thanks Hannah!
…. and I was told, I have to drop in the bunker with one penalty stroke, with a stuck ball in the turf
I subscribed Hannah thanks for the bunker rules.I didn't know that about you could lean on your Club in the bunker I'm going to have to try that👍😃
Great simple video as always.
Can you cover unplayable lies please?
The other case for bunkers is when the bunkers become temporary water. With all of our rain this year, our bunkers were basically ponds, so many times we were dropping out of the bunker in the nearest point of complete relief.
That is the best discussion about how to deal with bunker issues I have ever seen. Hannah that was brilliant, thank you.
Hannah, can you take a practice swing in a bunker, that isn't the one you're in?
As a handicap player, it helps a lot to know all the options for relief because bad shots are simply a big part of my game. When playing a while ago, one of my friends hit into a bunker and we noticed that there was no rake. He said that if there's no rake, the area is treated differently in the rules. I'd never heard of that! Can you clarify?
what's your thoughts about the rake in the bunker incident? i feel if the rake was not in the bunker the ball would not be where it is, therefore place the ball where it was and if it roils down to the Centre , then so be it.
If your plug like the last one can you go on line further back as far back as you want
Hi Hannah, what about if your ball is in a bunker full of water? This is a regular occurrence in winter conditions. Good video, thanks
Great video Hannah, nearly all of this was new to me.Thanks for making these golf rules videos, beats reading them!
Q/ If I’m unplayable in a bunker, can I not take stroke and distance penalty? So go back to where I played my last shot under a one stroke penalty. What’s to stop me doing that?
Thanks for the video – great to see all the options. Is there one you didn't mention – take the shot again for one penalty shot (stroke and distance)?
Nice to get some more of the unusual rules explained. Thanks Hannah.
Great Bunker view! You explained the rules extremely well, which I greatly appreciated. Question what's the rule if the bunker is watery or very wet heavy sand? Thanks in advance Hannah!
Great stuff, and so clearly presented!
One other option that's worth keeping in mind – the "cheat code" for a one-stroke drop out of the bunker… stroke-and-distance! It can be especially useful after a short approach, or even a chip, that's been mis-hit into a diabolical greenside bunker. In this case, for just ONE stroke, you can come back out and try again from the spot you just played from. It can be a good lifeline in that type of situation.
Did this on Bethpage Black #18 on a day when bunkers were a major weak point (hadn't watched your bunker videos yet. Now I love bunker shots.). Great drive on the last hole, the kind that keeps you coming back for more. Pulled a wedge hard into a deep left bunker. Let out a big "NOPE" and dropped another one down to use that one-stroke, stroke-and-distance option.
Find my self in the sand so often friends call me Hasselhoff, but honestly rather hit out of a bunker then fly over a green 🏖️ . 🏌️♂️
19.2c allows lateral relief of 2 club lengths from reference point (no closer to hole etc) The demonstration only indicted one club lengh in either direction no closer to hole?
Another great video! Thanks. One question. Is it correct that you can test the sand with your club in another bunker, just not the bunker your ball is in? For example, a nearby bunker? Thanks, Hannah.
Hi Hannah, great vid, are you able to practice your swing in another bunker local to the hole you are playing touching the sand prior to then going to the bunker you are in and playing your shot?
Couldn’t you play the ball in the location that it rolled to after lifting the rake?
Interesting video Hannah. I think that leaning on your club or placing your whole bag in the bunker is likely to cause controversy so if you could quote the rule that would be useful, so we too could quote said rule. Thanks
They removed all the bunkers from my course 😔 too many loose impediments……….kangaroo poop.
If the rake is moved and the ball moves I would think it should be played where the ball rolls to. It would’ve ended up there if the rake wasn’t in the bunker 🤔
As an older golfer, I'm 74 and recently added another 8kg,I've noticed that you seem to have lost weight (or is it the black clothes?). Has it changed your game one way or the other? It's not strictly a golf technique question but I'm thinking about trying diet to "improve" .
What golf course are you at in this video Hannah?
you can do a practice swing if it's in a bunker without a ball in.
Stupid /ignorant question …..loving these rules lessons while showing specific situations. Now the stupid question : is it safe to assume these are general worldwide rules applied no matter where one is playing? Meaning same in your part of the world as it is in mine (united states). As bad as golfer as i am ive always used a combination of rules i know to be so and a little common sense if im not sure. Which means i usually end being the only one in my group hitting from bad lies and never “fluffs” the ball . but i see it as why play the game if youre not following some set of rules ..i also somewhat see their point , to a certain extent . We are no where near pro level so why make the struggle harder than it already is ….to me if youre not following any games set of rules then why play it ?because your efforts will mean nothing in the end But im weird that way 😜
Great content, as always! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
