The world’s longest putt recently dropped.

A 139-yard putt sank by David Micheluzzi on the Yas Links in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Nov. 7 has already been verified and recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest (non-tournament) putt ever made. It was 417 feet or 127.1 meters.

That’s longer than I hit my 9 iron!

The record attempt was staged on the seventh green by the DP World Tour ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. More than 65 players attempted the feat, including stars Tommy Fleetwood, Min Woo Lee, Matt Wallace, Robert MacIntyre and Justin Rose. Watch below to see for yourself.

Micheluzzi, 28, is an Australian golfer who is breaking out on the DP World Tour. The cool part about this world record is ANY OF US could break it … with a lotta luck. All you have to do is hit a horrible approach onto a massive green and hope you make the first attempt with the flat stick. No problem, right? Here’s the quick version sent out on social media.

Making long putts has become a trending fad on social media.

As architects build larger and larger greens, there’s more opportunity than ever to drop a bomb. The previous mark was 134 yards set at The Baths of Blackwolf Run, a par-3 course in Kohler, Wis. Here’s the video and story detailing that epic putt.

According to Guinness, the longest putt ever made in a major tournament belongs to Jack Nicklaus (1964 Tournament of Champions) and Nick Price (1992 PGA Championship) at 33.5 meters or 110 feet. Bob Cook sank a putt measuring at 42.74 meter (roughly 140 feet) on the 18th at St. Andrews in the International Fourball Pro Am Tournament in 1976.

According to the PGA TOUR record books, though, Craig Barlow sank an eagle putt of 111 feet and 5 inches at the 2008 Buick Open.

There’s also a Golf.com story about one of the Bryan brothers making a 432-foot putt earlier this year, but since it hasn’t been verified by Guinness, we’re not giving it much credit.

All this nonsense begs the question: What’s the longest putt you’ve ever made?

I was pretty proud of myself earlier this summer. I sank what I believe is the longest putt I’ve ever made, a 75-footer (give or take) at the Stonewall Golf Club at Lake Manasas in Gainesville, Va. The birdie left my playing partners in disbelief. They were barely paying attention until it dropped. Since taking the flag out isn’t mandatory these days, it’s easy to worry about fixing ball marks and not watch your playing partners putt.

It’s wise to pay attention because you never know when the next miracle shot will drop.
