Is This The Best Oceanside Hole In America? l The Hole At l Golf Digest
Welcome to ‘THE Hole At’, where Golf Digest’s Derek Duncan (our go-to for all things golf course architecture) breaks down the hidden histories behind the most famous holes in golf. In this episode, Derek dives into the stunning Par-4 13th hole at Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. From its original plot of impenetrable gorse, the mysterious fire that revealed it’s elegance and the 60ft high greenside bunker that demands your attention, to becoming one of the most recognizable ocean side holes in the world, Derek explores the fascinating history behind one of Pacific Dunes’ most influential golf holes.

Great video!
Great job! I am not as familiar with the Bandon courses as some people and this was a great introduction. Some other video suggestions: 18th at Harbour Town (or any of the holes there 17, 7, 13, etc), 16th at Cypress, but it doesn't have to be a famous hole–just any hole with a good story that we might not know about
I love Pacific. It's my favorite course there. Absolutely an amazing track. I've played both Cypress and Pebble and they are iconic but bandon… It's just heaven for me.
Absolutely loved this. So interesting to hear the history behind these holes versus just the breakdown on how to play it or fly by drone footage. Can't wait to watch another in the future.
PACIFIC DUNES!! My absolute #1 course played!!
Hope to play bandon one day. Love these architecture vids. Oh and I'm sure they started that fire 😂
please break down sand valley hole 4, in my opinion the best and most difficult par 5 in the midwest
Next year planning a trip down to play all 5 courses at Bandon.
# 2 at Sand Valley
I love hole #13 so this video is now in my favorites. Enjoyed the story of discovering the new area of land that yielded such a great set of holes.
Comment and tell us which hole(s) you want to see feature in "The Hole At" 👇
I go to Bandon at least once a year and most times on this hole for some reason I hook it into the ocean 🤣
To be clear … this isn't the best oceanside hole in America, partly because it isn't the best oceanside hole at Bandon Dunes Resort (Bandon #16 is the best, and I'll fight ya on that).
Do #9 at Blackwolf Run River!
14 at Maidstone
most ovverrated course in america not named pebble beach. and its not even the best hole at Pac dunes. least impressive course at Bandon. two -four great holes doesnt make a great golf course. 18 great holes, and no dog holes, does.
Whistling Straits #3
VERY convenient WILDFIRE that was…. hmmmmmmmm
Great as always. I make sure I go on the big screen for these. Then have to open in phone to comment. I don’t know is what hole … surprise me. Just keep em coming. Happy thanksgiving 🦃
I always wonder what this amazing country looked like before settlers came and utilized land as an economic and recreational resource. I think if you lived here natively, the land was sure beautiful, but just part of life. But comparing the country today to say, 400 years ago, man I just wish I could see that.
