Can I ask how your LAB is so scuffed up? As someone looking to get on next year I'd rather not get a $500 putter that's going to start getting beat to shit so fast whereas my current Odyssey is going on 4 years strong with the most minimal scuffs.
Did you get any chance to try out the #7? Love the Jailbird look, but the #7 aim lines look a lot more functional
Excellent run down. This past summer i was remotely custom fit with LAB for my DF3. Based on my video they recommended 72 deg lie angle. I custom ordered mine at 36 inches, counterbalanced & heavier head options. Also got the 17 inch LAB SuperStroke grip and NN head marking. Love the customization options. My previous gamer was a 36 inch limited edition Jailbird 380, so the transition was easy. At 5'6" i play the putter by choking down about 2 inches. Like you said you cant get all that customization with Odyssey and this Square to square is really is for someone who either doesn't want to spend extra $ and/or doesn't play a lot. This year i played about 36 rounds, the most ive played in 1 season. The key to this is the Lie Angle balancing, it is a remarkable concept that really eliminates any twisting/manipulation needed to get the face square to the target line. Been golfing just over 30 years and my DF3 is by far the best putter I've ever used and I've had about 12 or so over the past 30 + years.
Be sure to include AMF, Patton Eagle, XXIO
Need more info on who’s joining the zero / low torque next?
It will be interesting to see how the low torque putters are compared in the future video. Each brand should be identified with their customization limits on lie angle and length. Total putter weight and swing weight should be measured. Face materials and feel are obvious topics. Grip options and whether they offer just a standard, or also offer a counter balance, arm-lock, broomstick versions. The Odyssey counter balance jailbird took over golf for a short time, wonder if they produce a square to square counter balance.
Defo going to buy a df3 just waiting on my online fitting results from lab. Thinking of going heavier head as my main issue is leaving putts shorr. Great video thanks
Sold my DF3 after 3 months
She lost that lovin feeling!
Using a LAB is like riding a scooter, it’s cool until someone catches you using it.
When get into the customization of the DF3 the price goes up even more. I got the square 2 square today and paid $300. The customized DF3 I was looking at would have come to almost $700 USD. First round tomorrow morning with the Odyssey. Fingers crossed!
Unlike LAB, you should be able to try out Square 2 Square putters in a lot of different golf shops. You can also specify lie angles up from 2 degrees up to 2 degrees flat if you order online. Given that they are offering more popular head designs, I am guessing at the price Odyssey is charging, quite a few golfers will be fine with those options.
great review alex.
ive seen nothing but good reviews of the odyssey, so the $300 price tag is the determining factor for me.
cheers from the texas hill country..
Something you never hear about in any of these reviews is the durability. If these things have to be specked out perfectly than that means they are easy to get out of the proper balance. Ultimately after 2 weeks of extensive testing I couldn’t pull the trigger on lab because I don’t want a putter that needs to be sent to the factory if I need a new grip or if it gets banged around in an airplane. It makes me uncomfortable thinking about how delicate and fragile they are before the effect of the tech dissipates.
Use the revealer on this Jailbird. I’d like to see it. If it doesn’t pass it’s not a rival but rather a wannabe.
I am not sure why people keep going on how the LAB looks "unorthodox." Like aren't we over that by now
Lab is a game changer
Callaway doesnt have a left handed available for preorder sooo LAB is better
I’ve tried all 4 LAB putters, the only one I would even consider would be the DF3, but man, there’s alot going on looking down at this thing…Tbh, you could take a piece of metal in whatever shape you want and stick it on a stick w a grip and get used to it and putt lights out, I’ve been playing golf for 30 years and had almost every design you could think of imaginable, at the end of the day whatever putter you get, your gonna have to get comfortable w your setup and way to deliver it to get the best results no matter what, the putter is moving at such a low speed when it hits the ball, as far as design and materials, concept, there’s only so much you can do while getting the same results out of them all. this new stuff out is really just confusing the hell outta me, putting is simple you hit a little white ball w a piece of metal to a hole, all these soft/hard inserts, this milled, this weight, this wide, 🙆🏼….like the saying goes, keep it simple stupid. Just a saying not calling anyone that
That’s for the review! Bettinardi is also releasing their Antidote Jan 1st. Same concept. $430. Could be the tits. Might suck. Betti make some quality equipment though so hopefully the former.
I am going to wait until all the models come out and then go to where I can get fitted properly. I already know I’m screwed being a lefty with some brands!
I've probably spent 5K on putters over the years. I've owned virtually every top brand and type, and I can honestly say the DF3 is the only putter that literally made me far better without doing anything different. The key is to set up with the shaft and not the head, let the club do the work.
I've got a MezzMax and a green df3. I'm spending winter in Las Vegas and plan to play them for the winter. They both were custom fit. The df3 is a little heavier and a bit more stable but they're both great putters. I find the df3 is great for lag putting and both are great on 5ft and shorter putts. Go Augusta green!!!
Not a fan of the brittle paint job on all the lab putters. Can speak from first hand experience- had the white link and had to sell it as it did seem durable at all and not worth the investment.
Custo Lab is €735.00 @ Scottsdale. Word of warning, Tried to have my Mezz Max changed (grip shaft shorter) and LAB US asked me to contact Scottsdale. Never ever heard back from them. So thats a thing if you need service or a new grip or something.
I noticed several chips and dings on the LAB. How long have you had it?
Odyssey/Callaway is one of the worst brand for lefties, rarely offer products for them.
Great video. The fact that the Odyssey is soft off the face while the DF3 is hard be one of the main reasons in making your choice?
Or can you easily get use to either option?
I’ll stick with my Newport 2. Don’t get these “new” putter shapes. Not against it as such but they’re both not for me.
