MISSOULA, Mont. — Golf season is a ways away, although once it comes time to tee off again, Missoulians can expect to pay a little bit more.
On Tuesday, Missoula County Commissioners approved a rate increase for the Larchmont Golf Course.
The Larchmont Golf Course transitioned to full county management one year ago.
Before that happened, the National Golf Foundation examined the course and they had one suggestion, a rate increase to match with competition in the area.
“Really the only thing that they saw, the only real negatives were that we were undervalued and that we did not meet the industry standard as far as pass rates go,” said Larchmont Golf Course general manager Rick Spurgeon.
The national standard is playing 20 rounds of golf would pay for the season pass. With Larchmont’s previous rates it was about 17 games that a player would pay for their season pass.
In a previous meeting, Spurgeon said the higher prices could lead to a better product.
The last time the golf course increased prices was four years ago.
“If there hadn’t had been a transition, we probably would have increased rates last year but we felt that one solid year under the new structure with the same rates was a good idea,” Spurgeon said.
